Freeview HD & Saorview TV

I was in Enniskillen at the dentist today & just happened to pop into Tesco to have a look at the TV's. I was really surprised to see a Tesco own brand TV that stated it could get both Freeview HD & Saorview.

The last time I checked (few years ago mind) you could get one or the other, but not both in the shop I looked in. On reading through different forums this is what I think might be the case:

    1. If a TV has a Freeview HD tuner it will also pickup the Saorview channels if they are within range (border area).
    2. If the TV has a DVT-B2 tuner built in, it will pickup both Freeview HD & Saorview.

Can someone confirm that either or both of the above are true or false.

    Thanks Guys.

Think your title should read Freeview HD TV and not Freesat HD (this is FTA satellite with full EPG). Regarding your queries - yes a TV with inbuilt Freeview HD tuner will receive Saorview as well as Freeview SD/HD. I have 2 Sony TVs in my home that do this. They were both bought in 2012 around the time of the Digital Switchover. There is one EPG with Saorview channels in the 800s. A DVT-B2 tuner IIRC picks up both Freeview and Saorview.

Thanks DF, that really clears that up. I edited the title as well.:)

Having a 'Freeview HD tuner' means the TV can handle the DVB-T2 transmission standard, along with MPEG4 video.

Only the latter is currently used by Saorview, but DVB-T2 has been a mandatory part of the spec. for receivers approved after Jan. 2013 IIRC.

I've set up a panny freeview HD tv in Arklow with the country setting on Ireland, which initially put the Irish channels first (Arklow tx) and the preseli wales Freeview hd in random numbers after that (the channels can be manually sorted in any number)
Itv wales HD on 115 for example, excellent signal strength on a group B
Arklow saorview is coming in on a grid aerial
