2003 VW Golf 1.4 Mk4 - Not starting

    Last night, I was tipping along and after about one minute after setting off the car started to run bad, like it was misfiring. The engine warning light started flashing. The lights I was at went green so I had intended to pull in further up, but it conked out where I was and I had to push it off to the side.

    So I tried to start the car and it turned and all but with the key turned it was trying to start but didn't actually start. Now the car was driving for an hour perfect before it was parked up for about five hours before I got into it. It is in need of a service.

    I have a trusty bluetooth OBD tool from our friends in China and I tried scanning for errors, but it wouldn't connect with the ECU with the ignition turned on. I have used it on this car in the past to see which coil pack to replace, so I know it works!

    Has anyone experienced similar or shed any light on this in their opinion?

    Could be the fuel pump, go to the back seat, just pull the piece where you sit on forward and you will see either 3 phillips screws or just a plastic cover which you can remove, remove the plug from the Fuel pump and get a multimeter and check the resistance between the two largest terminals (of the four) it should be around 10 ohms or less, if the pump is knackered you will get an open circuit, fuel pump failure does not flag a fault code as far as I know.

    I would have guessed coil packs but the fuse thing is a new one to me.
