Replace pump recommendation

3 bed terraced house. Oil fed. Pump isnt doing it justice. Constant balancing problems, cold rads etc.

Heres the issue, the rad system had originally been fed from back boiler from sitting room fire, upstairs to all the rads and then down to kitchen and back around again.

Got oil fitted 20 years ago boiler and pump in shed. He bypassed kitchen for some reason only known to him (or whats known to me now as laziness/cowboy), added a rad to sitting room, a rad in the hall, fed the 4 upstairs rads, the feed then back down to kitchen, back upstairs and then returns.

So pump really isnt getting around. Recommendations on a pump that does a little bit more than a usual 3 bed trcd house for that reason?

Or ballpark Costs of overhauling the whole thing so its not going up and down to kitchen. Its parents rental house so they wont see any return on it other than tenant ringing them all the time who doesnt know how to balance the system.

Is it a sealed system? If so then a 6/7m head pump would do. Your issue might be sludge though or pipe layout. The best thing to do is get someone in to diagnose the problem.

no, not sealed. Might be sludge alright, its deffo pipe layout, little we can do without a major overhaul though.

Depending on piping and pump location, putting a stronger pimp on might do more harm than good so I'd reccomend you get a plumber in to look at it

id seal the system, pressurise off mains. easily done and relatively cheap. the boost in pressure should help the water get round better, Its a 3 bed house so there cant be miles of unnecessary pipework. Also find the return sides of all upstairs rads, (cold side), and turn then all the way off and then open just one turn. put blank rad caps on to stop tenents fiddling. Upstairs rads will still heat but it will help the starved rad get fed.
