PETER MCPARTLIN IS to step down as CEO of Today FM, the station has confirmed this evening.

He has been at the helm of the national commercial station – one of the leading brands in Denis O’Brien’s Communicorp radio empire – for the last four years.

He is also stepping down from from his role at the helm of Dublin indie station TXFM – which was launched early last year, following the shut-down of the Phantom brand.

McPartlin joined Today FM after a long career in the advertising and media business. He is also a board member of the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland, the umbrella group for commercial radio stations.

Group CEO of Communicorp, Gervaise Slowey, said in a statement that the departing Today FM boss had overseen ”many important changes to the station including bringing in exceptional new talent to Today FM in the form of Anton Savage, Dermot and Dave, Louise Duffy, Paula MacSweeney, Kelly-Anne Byrne, Fergal D’Arcy and Neil Delamere”.

“These new shows are building on the enduring strength of both The Ian Dempsey Show and The Last Word with Matt Cooper.”

McPartlin, in a quote contained in Today FM’s press release, said he wanted to “devote time to explore new opportunities, both from a personal and career point of view, while I have the freedom to do so”.

Communicorp will announce a successor in the coming weeks.

Resigned or fired? Those poor TX numbers say "fired" to me more.

That said, it was an unexpected move from McPartlin. Apparently he just resigned and didn't give prior warning.
I thought he got the boot initially, but it appears that this isn't the case.

In fairness tx/phantom never had goo
good numbers, they don't seem to be promoting it either

Surely he had to give notice - at least a month, maybe more. The resignation is the notice. A person is hardly going to give prior notice that they will hand in their resignation at a point in the future.

Put on gardening leave I'd say.

In politics you resign from ministerial office 'to spend more time with my family'.

In corporate land you resign to 'explore new opportunities' or to 'move to a new phase in my life.'

Nobody's fooled - they're both codes for getting fired.

He left of his own accord. Think about what you're writing before you post unfounded crap.
