Transferring from Defence Forces

Hi all,

I know there is no direct transfer system in place without doing all the initial training just like everyone else, but my question is - as it is a public sector job is it possible to keep my current pay grade in the Army, and bring this over to the Guards?

I know this is possible as it is done between other public sector employments e.g. Navy to Coast Guard etc.

You can carry 3/4 of your service over to gardai or prison service as they receive 40 pension for 30 years service. If your pre 2004 pension scheme you must take up renumerative employment within 26 weeks to keep old scheme but exemption for garda trainees as their not classed as employees until after attestation on 32 weeks, but if you draw your short service gratuity from defence forces you are not carrying your service but can buy it back at a later stage + 4% compound interest, but might be an option to get through 32 weeks on just the allowance. Also anyone who thinks they will eligible for the family income supplement as a trainee, THEY ARE NOT for the 32 weeks as Dept of social protection class garda trainees as students and not employees and only receive an allowance and not a salary until grade 1 of garda pay.
