Do you believe in omens?

The local undertaker visited my house at the weekend looking for directions. My mother was upset about it. She thought it was a bad omen. I thought it was funny but not entirely without reason for concern. I do believe coincidences are an ever present reality but I wouldn't consider this instance a reason for concern. Coincidences happen but they don't govern all events.

    Do you believe in omens?

Unless the undertaker was looking for your house to put you or your mother in a coffin, I don't think it's a cause for concern.

I'd say you and the mother can relax, but careful looking out the window in case you see the wrong number of magpies!

But of a rumbling in my belly and a spot of cramp is an omen that the old scutter pump is about to malfunction... Explosively.

So wherever the undertaker goes, he brings bad luck...

I believe in human's ability to see patterns and attach meaning to unconnected events.

I believe in coincidences. Omens are just events that we attach our own meaning to. The reality is, they could be interpreted in any number of ways depending on the Omen-ee (new word!)

IE Your mother could equally have interpreted the visit as a positive sign. IE clearly they had the wrong address. Maybe she's unknowingly had a near miss. etc

Where's the coincidence in that story?

You believe in coincidences? That's like saying you believe that tomorrow will be Tuesday. Coincidences aren't some mysterious thing, there's nothing mystical about similar events occasionally happening around the same times. It's just random chance.

Getting back to omens though... It's ****ing 2015- grow up!

A midwife called into my house asking for directions and I'm worried I'm going to give birth to something out of nowhere.
