Change in my driving and work circumstances.

I have recently changed jobs and my driving pattern has changed. I was previously driving about 18-20,000 kilometres a year but this will be reduced significantly to about 10,000 km a year. I currently drive a ten year old diesel Volkswagen Passat and have being thinking of changing early in the new year but am very unsure of going for diesel or petrol. I have a budget of about 10/12k.

Also as I love the power and torque of the 2.0 engine I feel I would be missing out if I was to buy a petrol car.

Can any of ye fellow readers/posters give me any tips or recommendations on what I could or should do and also what petrol cars would give me that similar power of the Passat.

    Thanks in advance.:)

Which version passat have you got?
    Is it 2.0TDI 120BHP or 140BHP?
If former one, it does 0-100km/h i 13 seconds so very poor IMO.
Latter one does just below 10seconds which is reasonable, but nothing great.

To be honest, there's plenty of petrol car options out there, which will do much better than that.

    Think about 1.8 civic.
Or most 2 litre petrol family size saloons or hatchback should be quicker than your passat.
