Agitator Hp

    Hi all

I am in the process of buying an agitator. I have a 110hp 4 cylinder tractor - 100 pto hp.

I am looking for advice on agitators. I think I have narrowed it to either nc or conor megamix. I have 3 slatted tanks ----one is 8.6ft deep, one is 7.6ft deep and one is 6.6ft deep. What is the best solution for me as I don't know a whole pile about them.

I originally looked at a nc 3000 super as it would be fierce handy not to have to take the pro off during movement - however a sales rep told me the depth cannot be adjusted with the 3000super and to buy a 3000 basic as can change depth but have to remove the pto each time you move.

I rang a dealer selling conor and he told me a 6000 megamix would be the job as it has a wider outlet pipe and would be harder to get blocked compared to a 5000 megamix and my tractor would have plenty of hp

I feed round bales of hay and silage so my slurry can get fairly thick

    Opinions appreciated

Bought a redrock superflow here. Run it on the 7840. It can be lifted in and out without disconnecting the pto and the frame it rests on can be moved up and down depending on tank your in. Use it to agitate 8 and 9 ft tanks but mainly pump slurry from them to larger tanks

Outlet size isn't going to matter if there's net and plastic in the tank it will still wrap around the impeller and block it.
Also if the slurry is desperate tick with the biggest adjitator in the world isn't going to drive it far.
Divert the shoots off the shed into the tank and you will have it plenty of watery enough.
Have the nc basic here you will manage to move around without taking off the shaft if the yard is level and your tractor lifts high

Thanks for that info --- I assume you mean you have the nc3000

I don't let any netting into the tanks but bits of hay mights get i as cows pull it in when feeding. I assume my tractor will run the nc 3000 no bother?

NC 3000 is a great agitator and not too hard to drive, any midlin 90-100 hp tractor .I cant stand those ones with the toplink, too hard to put on and take off. Maybe thats just me.
I upgraded this year after 15yrs with an NC 3000 to a NC 3800
It's a fair bit harder to drive, you would want 130hp plus minimum, but bigger output and it never blocks.

Used to have the 3000 and just took shaft off at agitator end and throw it out to the side across the arm when moving around from one end to other. If you were careful enough with the lifts you could probably move it around with out dropping off the shaft but you would need to be very careful that the bottom of the impeller didn't hit the ground as it'd put savage pressure on the shaft and back end of tractor.

I also wouldn't advise going too big on the pump, there's nothing worse than not having enough power to drive the pump, it puts the tractor under serious pressure.

    Yeah the nc.
The hay shouldn't make any odds it will eventually drive it through.
I remember we done an open tank with grass growing on it and it used block it for about 30 seconds but it would pull it through.
As I said if it's your own yard you might manage without taking the shaft off.
    Just mind your back window
You should drive it no problem drove ours with 100hp for a good while no problem.
Pig slurry is a great help to break down solid slurry

Thanks lads ---great information. Leaning towards an nc3000. Does the nc3000 come as a standard length and then you can adjust the height in the tank with a hydraulic ram as my tanks vary from 9.6 to 6.6 ft in depth

    Many thanks

Yes you can adjust your hight with the tractor hydraulics.
    The spout movement is manual.
I'd get the facility to pump with it too.
Don't tink it cost much extra and could be very useful to move slurry from tank to tank
