Hi thank you for taking your time to read and answering my questions. I had to pick a product in college to sell so I picked the lely astronaut robotic milker but I need to know how much a milking parlour cost.
I wanted to see how much it cost to build a 10 unit milking parlour? From building the shed, to the milking equipment, tank and the yard. Also if there is a shed in place how much would it cost to change it to a milking parlour. How much is the maintenance per year roughly?

I know the lely astronaut costs €130,000 to €200,000 and roughly €12,000 a year maintenance. Be for 70 to 80 cows.
I appreciate all the help ye can give.

Some1 posted a few weeks back comparing 3 set ups

    1 robotic milking
    2 standard parlor
    3 top spec parlor

If any else can post link?

If I remember when set up costs, maintenance costs and labour costs were factored in the standard parlor came out on top followed by robot and then top spec parlor.

It was a Nuffield scholar, by Sean odonnell maybe? The general conclusion of most studies are that from a pure economic point of view robots just don't cut it yet, they only really suit the lad who has top class grassland management , low borrowings (aka inheriterated his farm ha), and really isn't fond of milking!

It was in the journal a couple of weeks ago reckoned that it cost about 8 grand more to milk the same amount of cows on robot conclusion was robot is for lifestyle and not to make extra profit.

Thank you so much I have checked them out.
I suppose from the outside they look good in away it saves time for the farmer so they could hold down a part-time job or for a young farmer that likes their gadgets. As I grew up on a dairy farm, was always looking at the clock and be back in time. They gave it up a few years ago.

After listening to Sean O'Donnell talking about it saying very hard to get hard evidence on robots. In one article I read that it saves energy but then read somewhere else that it uses more energy than a milking parlour.
