Garda Speed Camera Question

I'm wondering how far a speed camera clocks your speed and takes the picture?

I was of the opinion that the vans clock your speed and took the picture circa 50-80m from the van but see a lot of contradictory info.

There was a red van parked on the Garda only part of the M6. Looked like a speed can. I was over the limit but had fallen below the limit so just wondering at what point you're caught.

It's all here, a million times over:

As a general rule of thumb, 2.5 times the width of the road is the distance at which you will be read and snapped. I would consider anything under ~200m the 'danger zone'

    Thanks,

Apologies for not using the thread but the info in the thread is totally inconsistent from different users.

It's touch and go as to whether I was caught.
