I have fiber broadband through Sky. I have raised the issue with them but they are at a loss also.
So I thought I would check in with the Oracles on here for there insite.

Wired runs at up to 100MB
Wireless runs at 35-38Mb down and 17-25Mb up.

Off the router I have a home plug/powerline plug which provides the connection to the Sky+ and home PC

3 weeks ago out of the blue speeds disappear. They drop out to 3-6MbD and 0.4-1Mb UP (wireless). This is consistent.
When I plug out the home plug, speed improves back to normal.

I've changed out the home plugs same issue. I've left the home plug in and plugged out sky box and same issue (low speeds).

I can't isolate what is causing the Upload/Download to evaporate when the home plug is in situ.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can't take another week of my missus and the chisler giving out to me for the crap bb.

Side note: Eir have been out and done a line test and have encountered no errors on the line.

    The router is fine

The speeds only drop when the OP uses the plugs.

Possibly a wiring issue in the house?

Are you in a terraced/Semi-d OP? Wouldnt be surprised if you're linked through next doors BB.

Have 2nd router, did that change out 2 weeks ago.
This is only when using the homeplugs which worked fine up to the end of Oct. So don't know what could have happened to the wiring in the meantime.

Can you explain that one further? I don't get it. How could I be linked to their BB? The homeplug is plugged directly into my (new) router.

    - You have homeplugs
    - You dont encrypt them
    - It works well

    Then

    - Neighbor installs homeplugs
    - Doesnt encrypt them
    - You now have a mesh between both dwellings but with a really poor signal due to the circuit breakers in between. If your devices end up using their router as the gateway your speeds will be shíte.

Not saying this IS whats happening, but its possible.

    1. Disconnect Homeplugs: Google whats my IP
    2. Connect homeplugs: Google whats my IP

If the addresses differ, thats the problem.

Most homeplugs come with a layer 2 diagnostic tool. Find it, download it, plug the homeplug directly into the laptop, run the tool. If it shows 1 other homeplug besides the one you're connected to, great. If it shows multiple devices, you gots a issue.

    Deadly. Will try this.
