Birthday gift ideas for a baby girl?

How old is she? She'll be one.

What does she like? Sh*tting herself and Liga - the food, not the Spanish top flight.

Are her parents rich, meaning she already has everything? Nope.

Do you want to get something that might stay with her throughout her years? Ideally yes.

Have you used Google? I'm not allowed Google anything to do with babies anymore. That's not true. But yes I've tried Google.

I thought it'd be best to get the most common questions out of the way first. Google has a tonne of ideas. Problem is, everybody's going to be using Google, which increases the chances of getting her the same gift as some other unoriginal twat.

    Cheers.

They wouldn't last long around her da haha. That's also not true. I've no idea whether he likes sausages or not.

Have you ever had a conversation with a person that age? I tried it once. Hadn't a word of English. Maybe get her English lessons.

Whatever you're going to buy for her, she will never know you did. Some people have problems...

I always buy prize bonds for a baby because it usually means it'll be the first letter they receive with their name on it. But then again, that's usually as a christening present.

You should've came to me a year ago.

Ah would ye stop! Who doesn't like an auld sausage?

Serious answer: practical stuff like nappies and baby grows are appreciated, I think. Toys and shizzle she'll get dozens of.

    Prize bonds.
Nah not really, might as well save yourself the bother and just get her money and a lighter.
    Maybe a photo session?
Or a bottle of port that can 'age' until her 21st :D

Get the mother's IBAN and transfer some money into her account so she can use it for buying nappies and baby wipes

Prize bonds aint what they used to be, or so I'm told. You're 100 times more likely to be hit by lightning than to win the jackpot!

There's every chance Ma & Da just cash them in and spunk it on a Chinese & red vino too, but still.. babies first post! <3

Ask the parents what they want. They may have something like a walker in mind.

A voucher for a decent baby shop. Again let's the parents decide.

When the kid still doesn't have a clue, I get something for the parents, or something that would be practical for the child. Vouchers or one of those hampers full of baby-care stuff. Or just give the parents money. If you want to give the baby something that she will still have when she's older, a piece of jewellery like a pendant or something? A chain can be bought later for it.

Yeah, Prize Bonds have gotten weird now too what with the money laundering regulations - you have to supply the holder's PPS number, proof of address etc. Real pain in the bum.

Buy her a tree sapling. Then when she gets to 7 or so, the tree will have grown and you can buy/build her a swing for it. When she's 10, she can have a treehouse.

And when she's 18 and going to college you can buy her a chainsaw so she can cut it down and bring it with her for firewood (oil will have run out by then and we'll be in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, surely)

ETA: Especially if her folks live in an apartment. They'll love you for your thoughtful gift.
