Skoda Octavia II Release Bearing

    Hey guys.

My '06 Skoda Octavia II 1.4 (75hp model) has start making noises when pressing the clutch.

Assumed it was the release bearing myself, it makes a whirring kind of noise and can feel vibrations through clutch pedal when it's being pressed. I have no problems changing gears and it seems to be driving ok apart from that.

I brought it into a local garage, he confirmed it was release bearing in the gearbox. Estimated 500 for parts and labour to replace.

Also said it happens to go in these boxes quite commonly, skoda, vw gearboxes etc.

There's only about 86k miles, 140k KM there abouts on the clock.

Is this price good or bad, should I be looking elsewhere?

    Cheers.

Would you not drive it until it gets worse?

The release bearings can make noises but last for years. My Yaris had such a sound since I bought it and it lasted over 2 years and still going strong.

I don't see any point in changing unless it goes.

I thought the release bearing on those was accessed from the end plate. Cheap and easy
    d .I.y job.

    That's the Mk1 Octavia 1.4/1.6. Mk2 is a conventional setup.
