Had my chain break on my Classic 10 speed 1982 Raleigh Winner on Monday night. Got a repair done the next morning. The mechanic put a 'modern' 6 speed cassette (Shimano) on the rear to match the new chain. and its great!

Granted its now no longer a signature 10 speed bike (now 12 speed), it's rather nice. Nothing else had to be changed, deralieur and the down-tube shifters are the same as when I brought it in.

If anyone was considering changing to more modern parts, based off this, I'd recommend it fully.
