Insignia petrol or diesel or something else!

    Hi,

Looking for advice on new bus. I have an '05 1.6 litre petrol A3 which I'm keeping in the family so to speak, 90k miles on it and in top class condition, never gives a day's trouble...it's the older 1.6 engine so none of the TSI BS that can go wrong...straightforward engine.

Looking for something a little bigger and thinking of an Insignia. I do around 15,000 miles a year so petrol perhaps? Considering a 2009/2010 (budget is 10k max).

Or should I look at other makes/models and if so, what would you recommend for ride/reliability and economy.

    Thanks in advance!

Insignia petrol engines are limited in Ireland, the 1.6 litre is bit of a damp squib. It's under powered, relatively expensive to tax and isn't particularly fuel efficient. The 1.4 turbo is a bit better but they are rare to find.

If you want a mid size petrol car then look at the 1.4 TSi Passat, if you want an Insignia then go for the diesel models.

    Thank you!

Not mad on the look of the Passat tbh. What about this?

They are not a bad machine, wouldn't be gone on the loud colour myself but that's a personal thing. Also do you need 4wd as the extra weight of the drive train reduces the fuel economy somewhat, tax on it is €710 also in case you didn't realize it.

Well spotted! No I don't need 4WD and didnt cop the tax either. So maybe if it was a Tiguan I should use your original advice and look at the smaller petrol engine.

That said, is the mileage on that one reasonable? And what would be a realistic cash deal on something like that with a price tag of 9,999 or is that like asking how long is a piece of string?!

    Thanks

Hard to find many SUV in petrol form these days. Mileage would be about average for a diesel car of it's age. Colour is an acquired taste imo so might be harder to shift on afterwards.
