I'm changing my car because of family requirements, and after taking a few drives in a friends saloon Superbs (a 12 and a 151 reg) I've decided to go with a superb saloon. in relation to the gearboxes, I'm well used to a manual but an auto would be nice for a change. the DSG boxes seem to be the way to go, although I haven't heard of any complaints in relation to the transmission in the Skodas.
I will be buying straight - either dealer or private.
    looking at a 2010 - 2012 as my budget is 12k.
I see them on the usual sites, DD, carzone and autotrader - and all are asking approx. 2k above this price - doesn't mean there isn't room to haggle.
dealer prices on the other hand can be up to the 16-20k mark!
I would forfeit a guarantee for that difference.
    Any opinions or recommendations?

I'd say you will struggle to get a good 2010 Superb for 10k to 12k especially a DSG. You will be dredging the bottom of the pond in that price range, from buyers who have as interesting pasts as the cars they are trying to sell.

if a decent 2010 cant be got for 12k, even without a DSG... I'll eat my hat! Don't get me wrong - but I can wait for the right one.

Cheapest 2010 DSG on donedeal is a private sale asking 13k and that's an estate with a respectable 155k km. You might get a few hundred euro knocked off the price but these cars are popular so the seller may hold out for a higher offer. Most of the sub 10k ones have the older geriatric 1.9 TDi engine.

This 11 reg one is within budget but the garage selling it doesn't have the best reputation around here. No mention of service history either.

thanks for that Bazz26. I would prefer the newer engine alright. I would be holding onto the car for a few years (usually about 4 or 5 years) and a 1.9 engine would be pretty dated by then.

I recently purchased a car from Burns Car Sales and they had some really good deals on. Might be worth having a look. They were very easy to deal with too!

Don't mind that. Have you got a 2010 Superb with DSG for €12k?
