Lough Erne pike from the bank?

I'll be near Lough Erne for a couple of days soon and wanted to do some piking as I've read it's one of the best pike spots in he country. Is it much use fishing from the bank or do you really need a boat to catch much? I'd probably be using lures moreso than deadbait, but I could do both.
