Notice period

    I left my job and was required to give a weeks notice, due to area I work in I left that day and started my new job the following week once my notice period was up.

    Will I be paid for this week? I asked my manager at the time and he said he'd let me know but he didn't get back to me. I didn't want to contact him again as I felt awkward and just wanted to move on.

    I assume I'd be paid but I'm not sure, anyone know?

    I gave notice and didn't work, I left straight after giving the notice

    I don't see how you could be paid for it so. If I left my job I'd be required to give 8 weeks notice. I couldn't take those 8 weeks off and expect to be paid for it

    Why would you be paid for a week you didn't work? Unless you had holidays owed or something.

    I don't see how you'd be paid either, you weren't working!

    I was required to leave due to confidentiality reasons, which meant I couldn't work there but I also couldn't take up employment for the duration of my notice period.

    So I would assume they'd have to pay me for this time?

    In that case it sounds more complicated. Being required to leave as against you giving notice of intention to leave could be different. In hindsight that should have been sorted the day you left . If I were you I'd look for payment too in those circumstances

    That's what I'm thinking, can't really afford to lose a weeks pay! It was all very unclear

    isn't that gardening leave? think you should be paid too if your previous employer asked you not to work out your notice.

    Yup you should be paid, you gave notice. They accepted you were leaving but didn't want you to work out the notice so they pay you.

    I was in a similar situation and you will be paid for it - its called garden leave so the have to pay you - good luck with the new job! :)

    I've done this a couple of times in the past as well except it was a months notice. Your employer is obliged to pay you for that time and you are not allowed to work until that time is up.

    Check your contract it should be covered in there.
