Washing a toner out

I got my highlights done yesterday and wanted to go blonder. The girl washing my hair pulled the packets out and said "oh it's really blonde". Then the colourist mixed up a toner and put it in for 4 minutes. When my hair was dried, it was quite dark and mousey, and the colourist said it was probably due to the beige toner. I don't want to get my hair redone, but I want the toner out. Googling indicates that it should come out in time, but I can speed the process up with shampooing. Would it be better to use a purple shampoo (Daddy-O from Lush) or a clarifying one? My hair is quite dry so I don't really want to mess around with anything not specifically designed for hair!

Well using a purple shampoo is depositing more pigment on top so it's not going to help wash out the previous toner, if anything it's gonna make it more murky looking i would think. I would use a clarifying shampoo or else just wait it out tbh.

Head and Shoulders is infamous for stripping colour from hair, might help with the toner. Even if it doesn't work, it's not going to be harsh on your hair :o

Head and Shoulders is ****e for hair. Do not use it if you want to maintain its integrity.

A toner will wash out gradually or a bit quicker with a decent clarifying shampoo. Don't buy something like Pantene or any cheap crappy stuff as they're stuffed full of harsh detergents and silicones.

If your hair is very blonde, it might end up looking a bit fake without a decent toner on it. Your hairdresser should have a selection of suitable toners but it sounds like she might be sticking to her favourite one.

Thanks all. A couple of days have passed and I can no longer deny that I've gone from light blonde to mousey. Unfortunately I don't think any shampoo in the world can undo this, so I'm just going to have to phone up and ask them to fix it properly :(. Ironically I went to a "Master Colourist" because I didn't think the last hairdresser did quite a good enough job, and the last thing I expected was for it to end up like this!

That's so disappointing for you. Make sure you're not charged full whack to correct her mistake

Thanks Tasden :). I'd normally just suffer through, but this is just a horrible colour. I really have no intention of paying anything though! It cost a fortune in the first place, and the way I look at it, you wouldn't pay for an expensive item twice if the shop gave you the wrong thing, so I wouldn't pay for this twice when it was stylist error :).

Yeah, that's their error.no way should you pay any or all for it to be re-done proper!
