Dreambox DM800SE HD PVR - does it work with Saorview?

Hi, I'm considering buying a Dreambox for freesat, Soarview and among other things.

Reading up on the device, a poster in January 2012 mentioned that the current Dreambox only has DVB-T modules and that some countries have moved onto DVB-T2.

Will this work in for Irish Saorview? My transmitter is on Kippure if that make any difference.

Another thing, does any know the box in the UK link is cheaper than the Irish one? Are they the same devices, or are they different?

RTE 1 & 2 are broadcast in HD, which is DVB-T2. So whatever box you get it will have to have a DVB-T2 tuner. And a box that can do Freeview HD will tune in the Saorview channels as well.

We use DVB-T and MPEG4 for HD. UK uses DVB-T2 to fit more channels on a mux. AFAIK DVB-T2 is now part of Saorviews specs for new equipment but is unlikely to be used in the forseeable future. DVB-T2 is backwards compatible so you are right in saying a FreeView HD box will get Saorview. SD Freeview boxes may not handle MPEG4 and so are NOT suitable for Saorview.

The dreambox only has a limited flash space 64 MByte Flash, 256 MByte RAM and it only has a 400 MHz MIPS Processor .

And you can also pickup a solo 4k or a Duo2 for the price your going to pay for the dreambox with better spec and hardware .

It needs to be mpeg4, the one you are looking at says mpeg2 which will not work for saorview. It needs to be mpeg4 or freeview HD.

The linked boxes are MPEG4, it's listed as H.264.
