They're generally reliable when looked after but check what spec you get - the UK had a lower spec than Irish cars on the mk2 but there was a pack where you could get the armrest, climate control, cruise control, rear electrics, auto lights/wipers, full MFD and auto dim mirror so worth looking out for one with it.

Anything else is as per a Golf GTI, but the interiors tend to squeak and rattle a bit as the miles go up.

    Hi care bear....

I have exact car in blue and have 150k miles on it.
Best car I have ever owned for reliability and fun even after 5 years owning it I miss it when I use the other car.

I could do with the diesel but love it.

It is the low UK spec as the Irish came with what was said above.
I brought mine in from the UK myself.

It only had 1 problem ecu failed.

Dual mass flywheel on its way out but not a problem yet.

Original everything else such as clutch, gear box, turbo suspension exhaust etc...

Meant to add that there ain't a squeak and mechanic can't believe the mileage on it as in his words its as tight as a button.

Cheers, i will look for one with a better spec, i couldn't have a car with no armrest, climate control ect well spotted.

Another common bit with all VAG cars is the air con compressor can pack it in. If you like air con its worth checking.

Air-con compressor is almost a certainty to go on 2006/7 GTIs/VRS. Not sure what engine is in this, but the TFSI had a few potential issue especially in the earlier runs of it. Old diverter valves split with resulting lower boost, and PCV valves could go also. Easy fixes but won't drive right if they are gone.

There was a recall on original coils. I had only done mine when found that out so would have cost nothing.
