Anyone like the Audi. Have myself booked to test drive it tomorrow, not like I can afford one

I drove it last week, really nice car to drive compared to last model, I was impressed. My current car is a 177 S-line and the new model just seems a lot smoother on the 19's than the older model. Overall a much more refined drive. IMO the interior is best in class. If I had the chance to test drive this a month ago I probably would have held off ordering the 4 series GC.

Drove a 190 S-Tronic in the wet a couple of weeks ago, and it was awful at getting the power down. Wheel spin all over the place, just too much for the front wheels to handle. 150ps diesel would be better, or quattro in the 190.

Just like the last one did, it's still manages to look like some big ugly middle aged fat bloated thing . .

Hoping to go have a look-see and a test-drive next week.

I know everyone says it's a bit conservative-looking, but from the photos & videos I've seen, I really like it's looks. Would love to drive an S-tronic.

I wonder if the new 2.0L 190 bhp petrol engined model will generate much interest?

If it's like the one in Waterford they will have a blue TT-S you can have a go in!

Would be very tempted by a lower-powered V6 TDI avant quattro S-tronic next year depending on the PCP rates.

I think that petrol engine has some trickery in it which means I'd wait for some real life experience.

This month Car magazine tests it against the 320 and XE. BMW wins as usual but the A4 is praised for its supreme refinement and composure. Which means more to most people than on the limit handling.

Why bother? Not sure I'd torment myself tbh

On topic, Should do well if the PCP's are competitive. Future now discounts are usually good too so should see decent spec'd used models into the future.

Why would you waste the sales persons time if you can't afford it?

What is the interest rate on the pcp and what percentage gfv at the end?
Can't see this in the Audi website.

    4.9% and 20ish

What percentage of the price of the new car is that 20k?
That's pretty important if you want to have some equity in it in 3 years time.

    40%

I took the plunge and ordered a new A4 last month. Went for petrol - 1.4 TFSI with S-tronic box in Monsoon grey met. paint. Added the B&O Sound system and phone connect. Given a build week 52 so hopefully early to mid Feb.

Audi A4 is like the Android phone, people will love to boast about them but deep down they can never admit it will never compete with the BMW 3 Series just like how Android is infinitely inferior to the iPhone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,907 ✭✭✭Comhrá

I have a Samsung Galaxy s6. Checked the Iphone out but got the S6 in the end.

I checked the 3-series too, preferred the new A4, especially the inside. I live in suburbia, drive pretty much at or below the speed-limit most of the time and FWD is fine for me too.

    Did I overlook something here?

I seem to remember that you currently have an reasonably new A3 on a pcp or am I totally wrong there?
If I'm right, I would be interested to know how it's working out for you in terms of any equity in A3, how much your payment will change, are you putting a further cash deposit in etc?

    I have a 141 A3 Saloon but there's no PCP. Just a regular trade-in with cash deal.

Superb choice. The 1.4 TFSI 150 CoD is an absolute cracker of an engine, far smoother than the diesel and just as powerful - yet €4k less... it's a no brainer unless somebody is doing humongous mileage.

If yours is build week 52 it will comfortably be in the country before the end of Jan btw.

I remember you were a little critical of power delivery on the 1.4 tfsi in your A3 saloon, how does the A4 compare

It was more the lack of low down torque and the need for working the gears a bit when driving around town. I find the A3 1.4 driving at 50kph sort of hovers between wanting to be in 3rd and 4th gear.

I'm getting the same engine in the A4 but it's an automatic so hopefully that little issue won't be as apparent.

The A3 is very pleasant and eager to go when on the open road though, and nice and refined too. The A4 shouldn't be too different here either.

I have yet to drive the new A4 though. Meant to go for a test drive today but it'll be next week now, don't think there's any S-Tronic model available though.

How long until the manual gearbox is a thing of the past I wonder?
With dsg style setups, you have it all and some now coming in lower on emissions too.
The young poeple might not be able to drive 'stick shift' in about 15 years.

I had a Mk V Golf GTI in 2006 with dsg and I really loved it. I regretted I didn't get my A3 in S-Tronic even though I really like it other than the lack of low-down torque.

I drove an A1 TSFi S tronic (1.4 120bhp I think it was) for a few hundred miles recently, I don't think the low low down torque was compensated for by the "auto". Really needed a good standing on at times. I think you'll more than likely find the A4 much the same as your A3 in that regard. 99% of the time it's perfect no doubt.

I'm thinking along the lines of a petrol A4 in 2 years time perhaps.

I test drive a 1.4tfsi a1 in Scotland and loved it but I'd agree, unless you pushed it on it was dead. I'd buy one still mind. It just didn't work at the time.

I still can't get my head around the pricing of the A4 versus A6.
For only a couple of grand more you can get the bigger better equipped car in pretty much every equivalent engine.
I know it is an older design and not every one wants the bigger car.
I suppose it is like the BMW 3 vs. 5 series where the bigger car is actually better value spec for spec.

My wife had that choice. What swayed it was she didn't want the bigger car and went with an A4

No interest in an a6.. Bit of a barge same as the 5 series and e class imo.

Looking at audi.ie its 10k more for the A6.
Saying that christ the new a4 is pig ugly..I don't know if its the headlight styling but it looks like a superb. Making the default colour brown on the audi main page makes it about 10 times worse looking imo.

seriously who on earth buys a brown car....no matter what car is it, its truly a horrific colour..anytime I see a new one I imagine the driver is the most boring person alive. I'd never judge people on their car choice..but colour? that's an open game

Silver is entry level, brown is full on corduroy wearing, golf playing, weather discussing boring.

Wasn't a discount as such, but got 160 steering wheel and 400 Audi connect thrown in, and we split the cost of the 2.6k tech pack.

The poor aul a3 though, hope it makes it to January!!!! :D

Well, yes. More cabin space and lots more equipment like Clim. control, elec. lumbar support, satnav, xenons, Cruise Control with speed limiter.

Got a flyer in the door from Audi Cork. 39600 for a 2.0 TDI A4. Seems saucy. What's the 320 or C180 equivalent? Or are they even comparable any more (A4 looks to be a lot bigger car)

Saying that christ the new a4 is pig ugly..

I realise beauty's in the eye of the beholder but you're the first person I've heard describe the new A4 as 'pig ugly'. Ok, it's a fairly conservative, quiet -looking design, but pig-ugly? C'mon, it's not that bad-looking. :)

Agreed, the brown colour you mention doesn't look great to me either and I doubt we'll see many cars in that shade.

There has been a noticeable outbreak of brownitis this year in particular (I have noticed more on the roads anyway). Several manufacturers are offering cars in various hues of brown.

Seems its not a new phenomenon tho: https://www.carwow.co.uk/blog/Brown-Cars

Saw one of them in brown in miami a few years ago. Couldn't get my head around why you'd spend $1million on a car and then have it in brown. Was horrible looking.

Always thought the A4 was a classic reps car. Very staid looking and its design hasn't changed radically in 20 years. Typical VAG in that respect. In saying that, incredibly well built and they go on forever...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,549 ✭✭✭*Kol*

That reminds me that the only Veyron that I ever saw in the flesh was brown.

Until the Turbo goes of course.

VAG and BMW need to drop this reputation of 'going on forever' its horse****e.

These cars do not take any sort of abuse, and even babies ones can develop issues.
