New stove with stainless steel chimney, smoke coming back down chimney with wind. Chimney very open to the elements so obviously yesterday loads of smoke. Happened once before only have the stove about 2 weeks. Is there a solution?

Sounds like you need a cowl to stop the downdraft

Installer has recommended I get a h-cowl to stop the smoke. Company I bought stove off dont have a h cowl to fit my chimney type and think I should go with an anti downdraught cowl which is similar to whats there only more enclosed. Is a h-cowl always the answer? The h-cowl is the dearer option (if I can get one that fits my system) but is a h cowl always the best option in this situation?

Get a carbon monoxide alarm too if you don't already have one.
