Keep in mind that the corsa shares it's platform with the fiat punto, GM is an American company, and in most cases, Corsas are built in Spain.
Statistically 207s are usually very reliable cars, you obviously got a bad one.

If I were you, I'd get her into a Honda Jazz.

I'd also look at the Suzuki Swift, much nicer than a Corsa imo and this one is a year younger for the same money:

Are the engines Fiat? What about electrics? I didn't know there was Fiatness going on here with the corsa. Really turns me off it. :/..
On a side note the car was already sold anyways

The problem with the swift is her neighbour has one and you know how it is... One cannot have same car as your next door neighbour :]

The only Fiat engine used in the Corsa is the 1.3 diesel. I'd rather Fiat engines in it though, much better than the 1.0/1.2 petrol GM units imo.

What about a Kia Rio, will still have the balance of the Kia 7 year warranty and the Rio is bit roomier than other super minis:

That's a nice looking yoke, I'll look into that one. Thanks

Only the 1.3 diesel. But the point is that You're looking at the Corsa on the basis of it being German. But I'm more German than a Corsa, and I'm not German.

The Kia Rio suggested is a great supermini. There is a Hyundai version of it called the i20, but I think it came out later than the Rio so mightn't be in budget.

I looked at a kia Rio today, 2 of them actually and they are lovely looking cars however the prices of say a 2013 one were on par with a 2013 polo. You would probably be better from a build quality perspective getting the polo then. However I did see a 2013 seat Ibiza which looks more stylish then the polo IMO.
It was nearly 2k cheaper then the polo and the Rio.... What would anyone's opinion be on the Ibiza? The one I seen was a 1.2 which I'm told is the same engine as the polo.

I'd have far more faith in a Rio than a polo tbh. Kia has a phenomenal warranty too. you'd be covered till 2020 or 160000km
the Rio has a nicer smoother engine than the 3 cylinder one in the polo and ibiza and is a much newer model.
any used 2013 ibiza or polo you get will be out of warranty and youre relying on the dealer themselves to fix any issues. This must make sense given what happened with the 207

We ended up buying a 2011 Seat Ibiza 1.2 in metallic red this morning from a Main dealer. Its actually quite nippy for a 1.2 and my mother likes it and that's the important bit. Comes with a 12 month warranty.

    Thanks for the advice ;-)
