Is it a brand new car? If so why not treat it right from day one? It's only yourself you are cheating. Personally I always get my car serviced on time. It does seem to be a very Irish thing to do though, spent €25k on a car and scrimp on a €120 - €200 service

For 2 year plus warranty yes it matters, it's a get out of jail free card for the dealer.

What if something happens at 18km? Will you take it on thee chin or up in arms outside the Renault dealer?

Likely just oil ad oil filter and a visual check on the rest.

    No, it doesn't.

Service mileage is approximate, so if you bring your car for service at 15,017km will be the same good as if you brought it 14,987km.

Oil and filter, lights and levels check and tyre pressure/condition etc

For the sake of your warranty, I'd make sure it's done round the 15k mark. Only cheating yourself...

OP, if it was OK to leave it a few more km, to 17k or 18k for example, wouldn't you think that's where Renault would have put the service interval? The fleet market is a big thing the manufacturers look at and that extra km could make a big difference to a high mileage large fleet operator.

Typical "yerra its grand" attitude and this is why I am very slow to buy second hand cars in Ireland.

Top up window washer fluid, hoover car. check tyre pressure, check colour of car. €150

Personally I would change oil long before these makers stretched out service intervals.

Is the 15k coming from a sticker on the windscreen?

I've just checked the history of a few of the Megane's (1.5DCi) we have on fleet and they seem to be a bit random. Small mileage ones around 18k but the ones doing big annual mileage are around every 30k.

Info coming in to my system is that they have a service interval indicator, so the car is due a service when the car says it's due a service, and you don't need to get it done before then. At 15k in 5 months, you'd be high enough mileage and I'd say it would run closer to 30k than 15, unless it's constant town driving? Decent long runs and you'll be fine on 30k intervals, or a bit less if the car says so.

Did your garage where you bought the car not inform you of first service interval?

I have a Kia Ceed 141. The service interval is 30k, yet the service indicator was not upgraded, so pings at the 15k mark. What's worse is the garage also put a 15k sticker on the car. One of the other guys in the job had booked his in for 15k service, only for I pointed it out to him, he rang and they said, 'oh, our mistake with the sticker'. Cowboys Ted!

I have a Skoda that is set to variable servicing, yet the dealer also stuck on the 15km sticker in the window. The car decides when a service is needed

The 1.5 dci Megane used to be 20km but if its set to variable and your doing big miles you'd probably see close to 30km

Oil filter, yes. Tyres, depends on the wear really. Some can last more, some last less.
