Recently moved to the country and I am in a "fibre" area. So supposedly 90 mb

I went with sky and when plugged directly in to modem with a cable and doing speed tests, fastest I could get was 40 mb - and this was at different times in the day.

Got it installed on 2nd November.

Worked from home twice and internet went down twice for about half an hour - red flashing internet symbol on sky wifi box.

Wireless on mobiles, tablets is just crap - even when right beside the wifi box and after changing channels etc.

And all this in only 13 days.

So my question , is it the Sky box that is crap or just the line or essentially would switching to Eircom etc improve anything ?

Switching to eir(eircom) will just get you a different router. It might help in getting problems worked on a bit faster as they own the infrastructure etc.

Yeah. That was kinda what I was thinking - that the only difference is a different router.

Do the routers actually make a difference in all this or is it just the line and the exchange that's the issue.

Until you report a fault and get the line checked out it's difficult to say. Give sky a chance to figure things out before you consider moving.

Sky are dire, go to another provider.

But this is my thing, is the other provider going to be any better, seeing as the line in the house will probably not be changed as everyone piggy backs from Eir etc

These are exactly the sort of problems of going Sky fibre and letting them do the install, it's fine if you change from another provider. Sierra do the in-house install and KN Networks activate the line. The copper from the cabinet or exchange to your house never gets tested and brought up to respectable standard. Sierra are also clueless when it comes to removing bridge taps and ensuring the internal wiring is correctly done. Complain to Sky, insist they open a fault with Eircom and it will get looked at, Sky will have to cover the cost (they'll try to avoid this cost fobbing you off , send you out a new modem and make you jump through hoops first)

When I got this installed, Sky had to engage their "new line" team so I got a totally new number, who in turn contacted Eir and the lad that came to my house and installed the box on the wall was from KN

This still does not mean the line or internal wiring is up to standard for fibre, you could have bridge taps (sockets or extensions connected before the master socket) or things they don't look for when providing a line. Complain to Sky, it's your only option.

Your line is still syncing and tuning itself I'd wager.

    After 2 weeks ?

This will keep happening until you get the fault on your line fixed, your modem is struggling to keep sync. It could be your line or your internal cabling. A telecom tech must use equipment to test and make sure your line us up to standard, Sierra cannot do this.

Do you have dial tone, if you're getting half speed you could be running on one leg

I can't understand why the OP is not in contact with Sky CS, but would rather engage with pure speculation on here. There is an apparent line fault which has been hinted at, more than once.
