We just got this model delivered and spent an hour trying to reverse the door to the one beside it (two freezers cheaper and easier) to no joy.
Got the top off and swapped over the hinge/cap, we tried to the reverse on the bottom and the hinge won’t go on the opposite site. It’s like you’d need a left hand bracket and we are trying to put on a right hand one.

Any ideas before I ring whirpool or DID(not paying €25 to get them to do it)

Maybe you need to swap the hinges top to bottom as well, for example top left becomes bottom right and bottom left becomes top right & vice versa.

    Tried that thanks

It's like taking a shoe off your right foot and trying to put it on your left

There's a screw/piece of metal to hold the door, if I could take that out, I could flip the bracket and put it back in. Tried everything to take it out to no joy.

Did you receive the book thats taped to inside the unit.

Off top my head you might have to swap the front legs from left to right to get the bracket to line up.

I can check Monday when I'm back at work we have one on display sorry can't help you further

Yeah we got the book etc, all that's in it is rubber things to stop it hitting off the wall

I looked online and found a different brand with the same set up, he takes off the bracket and then just screws it into the other side.

If you can have a look thanks, ill try whirpool or even DID and see.

stick up a few photos of where you are having the problem, normally its use the existing hardware but relocate top to bottom etc

It looks like the top one is reversible by using the different holes, but not actually turning it upside down or anything.

Does the pin screw out of the bottom hinge and screw in to the bracker the other way round

Sorry I think you're right the top just went over and screwed in

Its meant to, but no matter what I do it won't move

Latest from did is now €40,€800 on two freezers and delivery then cough up another €40 for us to undo that washer

You did try grabbing the nut on the under side and unscrewing it with a screwdriver.

Your not going the wrong way when trying to undo it ,fairly strange sometimes I know I have to literally get a pliers on them just to get them started on undoing them and then swap them to the other side.

I forgot to look in work sorry will do it tomorrow if I get a chance.

If you think this one is bad try doing one with no instructions that was made in China that required the holes to be tapped so the screws could be fitted.

Sorry, is it that you cant get the screw-pin off the bottom bracket?

Am I right in thinking you got 2 identical freezers?

If so, then maybe its worth taking the bracket off the other freezer and seeing if it's easier to take off.

Id say you'd get it off easily with a vice grips. Or it may be easier to unscrew the pin with the bracket still attached to the freezer, making sure you're using a screwdriver that fits snugly in the slot.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions,
Between my brother and myself we have tried them all, some to the point there was a smell off the power screwdriver from being over worked (shows how tight it is)
New screwdriver and the power screwdriver in mains so couldn’t say its underpowered

@crasy dash, thanks again, it seems DID only want €40 or nothing, can’t/won’t do anything else, so if you can check a similar set up. That’s crazy, the joys of stuff being made cheap in the far east, corners cut big time

@colm_mcm, yes the hinge/pin thing, looks like its welded onto the nut/bracket
Yes, we have two identical make/models and tried both brackets, strange that the top bracket came off easier on one of them

All this over a nut and having DID try and tell me it’s some sort of highly skilled job I need to pay a “expert” to do

I'd use an old fashioned screwdriver in this case tbh.

If you're trying to get those screws and bolts loose with a powered screwdriver that could be the problem. Use a normal screwdriver or a socket spanner for the bolts and you'll probably manage it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,879 ✭✭✭jeffk

We don't have a socket spanner, or many tools like it.

Was nearly going to a hardware place to see if they can take it off, but don't want to risk a new freezer over changing the door opening side

Just get a flat head screwdriver. You probably have one in the factory toolkit with the jack and wheelbrace in your car.
The power screwdriver wouldn't have enough torque to undo it.

I think the OP is just having trouble getting the pin off the bracket, rather than getting the nuts that hold the bracket to the freezer off. Might be wrong though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,879 ✭✭✭jeffk

Sorry we have some tools, but say the last spanner was from when I cycled years ago. I was using a head on the power screwdriver to remove the nut or try hold it

The bracket is off the bottom and have the top one done and back in ok, but can't do the same on bottom

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Did you manage to get the pin off the bracket

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,879 ✭✭✭jeffk

No won't budge and gave up trying in case we damage it

Last chance to try and get DID to do it as good will guester tomorrow (unlikely), then just live with it

"All this over a nut and having DID try and tell me it’s some sort of highly skilled job I need to pay a “expert” to do"

In fairness to the retailer they seem to be saying it will be 40 euro if its just something you cant do, or it will be free if it is a faulty product. This seems fair to me. If you only have bicycle repair tools it sound like it might be a case of needing someone with more expertise. Nobody works for free. If the bracket is off why dont you bring it to the store. Save yourself the risk of the fee.

I have tools that can do it, but wont budge.

DID only want €40 or nothing, Whirpool will come out and look but then want €125 if they deem it easy.

Asked them that, was told not insured to do it by sales rep in store, but then told by online customer care they change doors if need be in store. Offered to drive to warehouse where these people are based, again no. Asked to show me, told id have to drive to Finglas and then told insurance we dont do it etc

We would pay €20 as quoted when pricing, but now she is saying three of us misheard her/she never said it(the aul anything to get a sale springs to mind)
