Nice one. Pity the NCT didn't release this type of info.

If you are still looking for a comfortable car a 405 is that but a non turbo diesel manual is about the least in refinement :P They have lovely seats. That one is identical to my saloon only sans turbo

I'm not buying that exact car, or necessarily a 405, in case anyone's confused.
I'm wondering about buying on that small budget without having the bother of going to the UK yourself. Yes it involves some risk, but I don't think the risks are that huge of you get the AA/RAC inspection done prior to purchase. If I was spending 10k I'd go over and view the car myself as well as getting an AA/RAC mechanical inspection done, but that's a different story.

AA/RAC inspections or not be still prepared for what they shove off the boat to you in Rosslare.

Why wouldn't you buy one in Ireland .Plenty of decent cars for Similar in the bangernomics thread

Can't see how this makes sense. 700 pound to buy, 700 quid vrt plus shipping it here. Therefore you're talking about close to 2k landed and road legal.

Plus AA/rac won't even test drive it unless it's taxed.

I'd be getting a local recovery firm to lift it and drop it right to my door, they take cars in from the UK for other customers every week. And at that money I can soon flog it again if I don't like it.

Well I follow that thread a lot, and there are some good motors on it, but overall there is no comparison to the choice available in the UK and the history checks available as colm has demonstrated. And in general (yes its a generalistion there are exceptions) UK cars are better looked after and serviced and on better roads.

So the ops number one priority now is that it has current tax?

You can't buy a car in the Uk with tax

I dunno, but it's worth pointing out that if he's buying the car on the basis of a report
You can't buy a car in the Uk with tax

You can have a car for sale that has tax though, which means the AA/rac can drive it.

Over the years I've gone to the UK and brought back a few cars, when you count in airports, flights, ferry and time off work, it's not that exciting. As I said earlier if it was 10k I'd go over and bring it back myself, but at that kind of money I don't think it's critical.

Yes, but we're not talking about an expensive car. Were talking about a bangernomic contender. While their cars might be better looked after, you'll find well looked after Irish cars that won't be rotten underneath

I've bought many bangernomics in Ireland over the years as well, and I will again.
Sure if I was looking for corrolla or yaris, but I'm not, I'm looking for something a bit different, that's rare here now, and certainly very unlikely to be available in very good condition here, unless you are prepared to wait several years for it to come up for sale. There's 60 million people in the UK versus 5 million here, that's 12 times the choice and availability. People source cars in the UK and import them here for all sorts of reasons, and price is not always the reason, and some people hate UK imports, each to their own.
I'm not really interested in rehashing the well worn debate about buying a car in Ireland Vs a UK import, each to his own.

What happens the tax if car gets sold?

It is refunded to the seller

I like the breakfasts on the ferry tho. The car is just a bonus.
