Licence duration mixing Cat 1 and Cat 2 vehicles

My licence is up for renewal and I've Cat 1 grades and Cat 2 [C1,EB,EC1] on my current licence. Interestingly the expiry date of the Cat 2 grades is a week prior to the Cat 1 grades, I've no idea why, but at least it shows mixed expiry dates is OK in principal.
The NDLS say Cat 1 licences will last 10 years but Cat 2 licences are usually issued for 5 years. Will my new licence mix the expiry dates so I get the full 10 years for Cat 1 vehicles.

It will indeed mix grp 1 and grp 2 end dates. Assuming you're under 60, the licence end date on the front will show a ten year duration and your grp 1's category end dates will have the same end date on the back.

The grp 2's end dates on the back of the card will have the same day and month but will be five years earlier, assuming your medical covers you for the full five years.

There often is days or weeks between the grp 1's and 2's on outgoing licence and I reckon the reason is because of the grp 2's were issued on the basis of the date on the medical report and grp 1's were issued on the basis of arrival at the Motor Tax Office. It's very common for people to wait a while after getting the medical before going to get their licence.

EB (or BE as it's now known) is a group 1 category so that'll be there for ten years too

Cat 1 is smaller vehicles like Cars, Motorcycles and Tractors.

Cat 2 is larger vehicles like Buses and Lorries.

There's EU vehicle categories M1, M2 and M3 for passenger vehicles, and N1, N2 and N3 for goods.
