I am looking for some ideas for my brother-in-law who will be moving into his new house in the new year. Himself and his wife have built in the country and as I have him as my Kris Kindle I would like to buy something related to new house but also for himself in some ways too.....

    Value towards present approx €100-€200

    Would welcome any ideas, thanks

Hard to say without knowing what he is into i.e. if he likes coffee maybe get him a coffee machine/grinder or something like that

Depends on whether they are bringing stuff from a previous house, or starting out from scratch?

Maybe a gadget of some sort, men love gadgets! Like a nice modern stereo or radio?
Maybe a Freesat box if he hasn't got Sky?
Maybe something like a cordless drill if he's a DIYer.
Maybe a piece of art (although can be very subjective, what you think is nice he might hate).

If he has built in the country he probably has some decent space outside. What about some plants, trees or furniture for the garden.

Yeah tree would be a nice one, as everytime he looks at it over the years, he'll remember who bought it to him!

Initially though he might be like "wtf, you bought me a tree for Christmas?" but I'm sure it would grow (on him) over the years

Cheapest version I can find online.
    Can't vouch for its affectiveness.

Thanks for all the replies, Yeah I think something along the gadget line alright, but unsure what to get. As they will be out in the country!

He does not drink tea or coffee but as he will be in the country, he does like walking a lot so might be an option but had been thinking he might have all the gear by now

Another was a voucher towards a telescope or the likes as they are in quite a remote area.....

Thanks for all the ideas though! Cheers

    Telescope another good shout.

When I moved from the city to the country, I could not believe the sky at night with the lack of street lights to hamper your vision.

On clear nights you can see a sky like you'd never see in a city, thousands of stars. Actually thought about a telescope myself.

framed art or photography, insofar as you need to know the person well enough to pick something, is a great present

Waterford crystal carriage clock. Lovely on the mantelpiece and they'll see it and use it everyday.

I think the tree idea is by far the best. People have very different ideas about crystal, art etc.

Johnsons in Naas have unusual things like a hazlenut tree that will also give you truffles from its roots - maybe you'd need to be very into cookery to appreciate that but what about an apple tree (you can get self-fertile ones where you need only one) or a cherry tree?
