Colm Hayes was saying in one of the tabloids that he has been approached by a big commercial station. 98fm for breakfast maybe ?

98fm isn't a big commercial anymore really.. But they do need a Dublin favourite in that slot and he had a strong track record in that regard!

Could it be Today FM or 4FM? I would be surprised if it was FM104. It could be the mid-morning slot that the mystery station has in mind.

Is it 1999 again or something???

Are we sure he didn't leave out "around the time I was considering leaving FM104, I was..." before the "approached by" bit of that statement?

If he has been approached by any station it should be in a managerial role. I am lost as to what he is doing on a radio station that has struggled with its identity for so long. Who exactly are 2fm aimed at these days ?

If 2fm are going to go back to their roots, they should just bloody do it and stop with the faffing about.

Colm recently attended Nova's fifth birthday in Lillie's. Knowing Colm, he doesn't leave his gaff for something which isn't of personal gain to him.

He's good friends with ex 104 ceo Dermot Hanrahan, now a director of Nova so don't be surprised if he turns up in a managerial or consultancy role.

One other ace card that Colm holds... He's one of the original Nova jocks. Always a plus with Kev.

This is not insider information, I'm just adding 2 and 2 together and quite possibly coming up with car insurance numbers.

You obviously haven't listened to 2fm recently, it's very much a youth station now during the week. Colm is on at weekend's at a time when the young are asleep

And playing music that is not suited to his core listenership. I have a lot of respect for him as a broadcaster. Before a lot of people here learned how to walk and talk and type, Colm Hayes was broadcasting. The way people continue to attack him here because they think he's paid too much, there are plenty more in Montrose not worth their salt and get paid much more than him.
The current situation at 2fm is a joke. Moving broadcasters such as Colm Hayes, Will Leahy and Rick O Shea to weekend slots is a complete joke. Moving them aside will only strengthen their hand with the commercial radio stations who know they all attract listeners and market share.
So we have three very experienced presenters who are "parked" on weekend slots but playing music for the teeny boppers. A PR and market share disaster.

Compare last Sunday morning the music on Today FM with Declan Meehan. Its hard to compete with your main rival for music on a Sunday, bad enough most people are in bed and listeners are thin on the ground but to be competing with Spin/iRadio/Beat just does not add up.
I hope he moves on away from that sinking ship along with a few others.

I thought Colin was alright back in the days of the Strawberry Alarm Clock; his banter with Jim Jim was great.
But since his move to 2FM, he's become stale and irrelevant.
If he does move to another station, in a different show-style, he might be good.

    Colm.

He was good back then, he'd been with the show for a long time. To me I always see him as a really neutral presneter, hes well capeable of doing a show on his own, throws out some funny lines now and again, I wouldn't have a problem with him popping up in a more regular slot. It won't be FM104 that's for sure, bad blood there. Won't be Spin, 98 or Q102... so most likely Nova or 4FM if he does.

I can't see Nova or 4 matching his salary requirements, though.

    Wishful thinking I suspect

If he's currently only weekends in 2fm then maybe they could.

It may not be all about salary as there must be some honour in returning to a full time slot Monday to Friday.

    What show would he take?

You are seriously over-estimating the value of honour!

Honour is the wrong word. Pride or prestige of a full time slot maybe.

Same thing. Big wads of cash help bury pride very easily.

I have obviously. Hence my original statement, about doing it fully or not at all!

Colm does not fit that format, as a jock.

Perhaps splitting Courtenay's 5 hour gig by sticking Hayes on drive Monday to Friday ?

Gaughran, Courtenay, Hayes. Kevin would be wetting himself.

    He just needs JOH!

Neither does Fanning, Gogan, Leahy, O Shea, Scott with that statement.

    I agree.

They either do commit fully or not at all, which is what I original said.
