BMW Drivers

I used to think it was just my imagination that so many times I've been tailgated or had to put up with ignorant driving on the road, the car involved was a BMW.

But someone in work yesterday was talking about a rude wagon who swerved in front of her and then gave her the two fingers when she blew the horn at them, and another person said 'I bet they were in a BMW'. It turned out they were .

Anyone else noticed that BMWs seem to attract a certain type of driver?

You'll get pricks in any car.

By the way, I realise that there are lots of polite responsible BMW owners out there as well.

Audis, BMWs, 4x4s/Range Rovers. Its a status thing and yes they do make up a disproportionate number of road twats.

    Confirmation bias.

The knob to sound ratio is consistent among all vehicle operators, from the kid on the pogo stick to the captain of the oil tanker.

As a BMW driver I thank you for acknowledging this point.

However please realise we are better than you in every way and just save yourself the pain and get out of our way. :pac::pac::pac:

I suspect a lot of beemers are driven by the 30-40 year old male bracket.

Absolutely no evidence to confirm that, but it's a car that always seems to impress my friends in that bracket, it's the one they want etc. etc.

Can't wait for the first poster to point out that it's your own fault for getting tailgated, just pull over and let the "proper car" get past...

I don't drive a BMW and I totally agree. Its a bit like being from Cork, you just know you're better than everyone else.

It's true, I drove a BMW once and when you put the cruise control on, it seeks out the nearest car and tail gates it automatically.

People react differently depending on what you drive I find. In my MX5 I'm cut-up/tailgated far more often than in a saloon/jeep.

I heard they developed an autopilot for BMWs years ago, but any time it was activated the car tried to drive up its own arse!

It would help if BMW put indicators in their cars.

I do drive a very old Toyota, and try to stick to speed limits. Maybe this modern world is just too much for me :(

    Big engine = small willy

    Horsepower compensation.

    It's true, though. Anytime I drive the brother's 2010 F10 I'm a smug, irritating, wisecracking arsehole. Oh wait... :D

Why do BMW motorcycle riders never wave/nod at other motorcyclists? ;):D

I was only thinking today and how well behaved BMW drivers were in recent years. Audi seem to have inherited all the ****e drivers recently.

Most BMWs on irish roads do not have big engines.

According to Sgt. Chris Barcode of Hendon Police College Advanced Motorbicycling Technical faculty, home of the legendary Templemore Two-Step, this would involve removing one or more hands from the handlebar of the motorbicycle, thus interfering with the centre-of-gravity and possibly destabilising the machine at a crucial moment.

People who drive Nissan Micras and the Toyota Yaris are always the worst road users.

Waiting for someone to open an opportunity for you to tell us what a big engine REALLY is?

Two pages in and nobody has posted the joke??

What's the difference between a BMW and a hedgehog?
A hedgehog has the pricks on the outside

It doesn't, I've only witnessed aggressive male BMW drivers to be honest.

I don't think they're the worst road users, they just tend to be old! They drive slowly and take no chances whatsoever. This can be annoying if you're in a rush and stuck behind them but is not their fault/problem.

I had a BMW F10 for 3 years and any time I was tailgated it was always by a Nissan quasqai. I drive an Audi A6 now and it doesn't happen as much.

They're small, inexpensive, reliable, easy to drive, easy to park etc.

This could be more to do with the overall standard of driving in Ireland. Which is appalling. The use of indicators on a roundabout is in danger of disappearing. The use of indicators turning corners seems to be an archaic concept to some of the knuckleheads behind the wheel of a car or van in Ireland. Overtaking on the inside lane of the motorway. Using the outside lane of the motorway for purposes other than those intended. Unbelievable examples of inconsiderate and poor driving. It doesn’t seem to confined to the drivers of any particular marque. If I was to catch judgement on any driver, it would be those driving underpowered tin cans like the Nissan Qashqai or the Kia “Sportage”.

I always rent a car when I fly back to Ireland. It’s always a BMW. It mightn’t have the same standard of spec as the 5-Series I own here in Germany, but it’s still a premium piece of precision German engineering. My choice of car certainly doesn’t change my driving behaviour. In fact, I’ve been subjected to some comments for having the temerity to drive a BMW. I pulled into a filling station in my home town last summer and filled the car. Went in to the station to pay only to meet a chap I went to school with working behind the counter.

“Jesus, look at the fancy Dan arriving in here in the rental Beamer. Home to buy up half the town are we?”

I kept quiet, content in the knowledge that I can afford to buy a new 5-Series with a host of extra features and performance enhancements each year, as well as being able to rent a premium marque when I do come home. Meanwhile he drives a 2001 Toyota Avensis. I let him have his little comment.

No, it's something more than that. The micra to old people is like cat nip to cats.
