    Hello,
I have been reading this forum for a long time and have finally decided to take the plunge and post a question. Please be kind! I am involved in the early stages of planning a charity cycle for next year and would appreciate your feedback on this matter. If your route is 122km, then ideally where (as in at what distance) would you prefer your foodstops to be? Our committee cannot agree on the matter. Another thing, what would you like to see at the foodstop? Is there only so many sandwiches one can eat? Thanks in advance.

I think you may well get many individual preferences for a food stop(s). For me, I would prefer to cycle for 50 - 60km and have a quick cup and possibly a sandwich or snack bar. Also, having a facility for a cup of tea / coffee at finish would be welcome. Hope this helps.

    • Water/Fluid Stop @ 30k
    • Food/ Water stop @ 60-70k
    • Water stops at the summit of any major climbs
    • Pasta party (well a sandwitch will do) at the finish.

What Food? keep it simple...Plain Ham/cheese sandwiches, Bananas, Tea/coffee

oh and cake! you can never have enough cake! :)

Would agree with all this, except cut the water stop at 30km. No need for more water 30km from the start in Irish temperatures!

About 60% of the way in (assuming that the terrain is fairly consistent).

Thanks very much for your replies. It's great to get some honest feedback. And I'll bear in mind about the cake I promise!

After halfway...maybe 70-75k in your distance. Coffee and cake.

60km for food stop, then put a water stop at 90km. Organised a 110km cycle for 400 people this year and we had the food at 50km and people said we should really have had a water stop after it, we eneded up driving out water to the 80km location in a rush to make it.

You have to have Jaffa cakes.

Don't forget a few butter-free sandwiches too for us non-buttery types

Food stop no later than 60km, which should offer bananas, fruitcake or brac, sambos and water.

Any preference for the bread? White? Brown? Wholemeal?

Might be an idea to get a local sponsor to pay/supply snack bars such as Nature Valley. At the food stop, riders can put one in their pockets for the last 20-30 km.
Depending on the weather, hot soup at the end is the business, served in polystyrene cups.
I'm a huge fan of the wine gums you get at some events. Magic.

Was part of a team that did a cycle a few years ago, similar distance to yours. We had 2 stops enroute 45(ish) km 85(ish) and plenty of food and drink at the finish.

in regards to what to have, we hade bananas, jellies( everyone loves jellies) chocloates and tons of sandwiches/crossiants & other baked goodies.

    water, lucozades etc for drinks

Looking back at what we had the amount of people that helped us was incredible, If I learnt anything from the event, ask anyone that you can think to help you on the day with supplying stuff, a slab of bottles/box of chocolate bars if they say no, so be it!

    good luck.
