Yes. You should be able to add your AerClub number to the booking on the BA website.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,986 ✭✭✭Van.Bosch

I think it’s worth it, the aim is to use it for everything to get as many Avios as possible to make it worthwhile.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 614 ✭✭✭Dublinflyer

If you book a rewards flight using avios and cancel it, do you get the avios back?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭melchior1951

Yes but there is a fee of around 42 Euros IIRC

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,209 ✭✭✭samo

Is anyone finding longer than usual for tier credits to be applied. Waiting for flights from 1-2 weeks ago to come through and also one LCY on BA - (if anyone knows roughly how long usually till BA gets added?)

For Tier upgrades is it book by tier expiry date or use by? My concierge expires end March and I haven't used any of the four upgrades. :( Possibly traveling May but will that be too late?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭Tea2

it’s book by - ie you have until march 31 to apply the upgrade to a flight, which can be any time in the future. Don’t know what happens if you request an upgrade before end of march and it doesn’t get accepted until sometime in April, so request early is my advice

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 980 ✭✭✭Pete123456

You can also book a smart fare and at least that’s refundable if the trip doesn’t go ahead or if your upgrade doesn’t clear.

I was lucky enough to have 2x upgrades clear each way in 24 hours when I applied recently.

Was also granted another 1 way upgrade on an almost full flight after 48 hours

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,826 ✭✭✭g0g

Thanks both! It's a work trip so I'm wondering if I can use it as I won't be booking direct. It's done through third party booking engine but I'll still have an EI confirmation email and flight reference as normal. Their T&C suggest midday be booked on the website. They can only be used in my name I'm assuming?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 980 ✭✭✭Pete123456

if it’s through Concur it should be effectively the same as a normal booking - I would say if you’re getting the standard confirmation you should be fine - give them a call and ask, nothing to lose

I got a notification a few days ago saying there's a 20% bonus on any Revolut points being turned into Avios points before 16th of February.

I pay for Revolut (lowest tier) and I know a friend who doesn't pay for it didn't get the message, but if you have a lot of Rev points and you intended to turn them into Avios points might be worth doing before the 16th.

I just transfered 1342 Rev points and got 1610 Avios points

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,986 ✭✭✭Van.Bosch

I don’t pay for revolut, didn’t get the messsge but switched them over and got the bonus - thanks for the heads up.

So I applied for the BOI Aerclub credit card, Im a non BOI account holder just wondering do they have an app these days that you can track your spending and points awarded?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72,463 ✭✭✭✭L1011

You'll need the 365 app to approve 3DS online purchases, so it covers tracking spending

Points earned - they get dumped to your Aerclub account monthly so you can only check there. 365 app is unaware of them entirely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,094 ✭✭✭lc180

So I've got about 120k Avios points and hoping to finally use them.

Planning a trip to Chicago with my wife and looking to go business class on the way over.

Is the correct approach to buy return economy flights and then email the aerclub upgrade address to organise business class?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 559 ✭✭✭RMDrive

    https:// rewards.aerlingus.com/

Use this site if you are spending Avios rather than upgrading.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 614 ✭✭✭Dublinflyer

You should consider doing business class on the way back to Ireland. It's an overnight flight and you might enjoy the lie flat bed a bit more. It can be harder to get the rewards flight on the way back for that reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭RunningFlyer

Re the 2x Reward Flights, can you book them for travel after the expiration date or does travel have to be completed by then?

If they must be used by the expiration date, is it possible to gift the 2x tickets to family? I know you can do so for lounge pass and fast track, but can't seem to find any reference to the actual Reward flights?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,681 ✭✭✭Nolimits

Only thing I'd say is, if it's your first and possibly only time (I don't know if that's the case here) maybe that person wouldn't want to sleep through it?

For a novelty they might want to enjoy the bigger more relaxing seat for the 8-9 Hours, the bigger TV, the nicer food etc

If you sleep through it, then it's all over so quickly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 614 ✭✭✭Dublinflyer

That's very true! I travel a lot for work so have been able to do the busiess class thing twice with my points and for me the novelty was getting some fairly decent sleep on the plane and not having any jetlag the next day back in Dublin. But you defo get more of the experience on the way over when everyone is awake and the cabin is bright.

Your assumption is correct! This will be my first and possibly only time so I'm planning to enjoy the whole experience and not sleep through it.

I might be changing to an open jaw trip and flying home from San Francisco where a lie flat bed is sounding quick appealing. Decisions to be made!

I checked my dates in rewards.aerlingus.com and can only see economy rewards, does that mean all business class options are taken?

Also there is no multi city option on rewards.aerlingus.com - am I missing something here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,304 ✭✭✭Former Former Former

The best part about business class is sleeping through it! Especially from the west coast, you have time to have your meal, a glass of wine and then lie down for a proper sleep.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,094 ✭✭✭lc180

Totally understand what you mean! I fully intend to get sleep onboard, it just not my overall goal to only use the flight to get 8 hours kip and be rested for my arrival.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 614 ✭✭✭Dublinflyer

I will warn you, once you have the business class experience you will never be happy down the back again 😂. I have managed it twice over the years with points and am always trying to justify the cost in my head, but herself usually brings me back to reality. As far as I know there is only 1 or 2 rewards seats in business for most flights and on the New York or San Francisco routes they are snapped up quickly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 122 ✭✭SB Morer

You just need to book the flights before the expiration date. The flights can be for any date in the future that has availability on the portal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 122 ✭✭SB Morer

Business rewards are notoriously difficult to find on Aer Lingus. They’re known for not releasing any seats at all on US routes during the busier months. You might be better off trying to book a BA reward flight and go via Heathrow (provided you can find the few extra Avios for the DUB-LHR segment). It’s very risky to book economy and assume you can upgrade. It’s also very bad value in my opinion as their upgrade cost is 44,750 Avios. It should be no more than the difference between an economy booking (20,000) and a business booking (60,000) so 40,000 max.

I’d always book one way rewards under two separate bookings. You won’t find a multi-city option.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,094 ✭✭✭lc180

    Great advice - thanks folks!

I recently booked return flights to New York with Aer Lingus.

My aer club number is attached to the booking.

Does anyone know when I’ll see the pending points? Previously I thought they showed at the time of booking or shortly after.

Do I now not receive notification of these points that I will receive? Are they now just applied after I fly?

always after you fly, but they have been delayed lately, I’m still waiting for LCY flights and DUB-FRA taken in past 3 weeks and no sign yet (usually used to be within 48 hours at most)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,218 ✭✭✭BigMoose

I flew EI Regional last Sat and returned monday and had outbound credit on mon, return on Tue. If it’s been 3 weeks I’d be filling in a form.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,209 ✭✭✭samo

yes, I’ve done that for both, it’s annoying as I’m getting close to Concierge (need 2 more trips, if I book Aer Space will get there, but the tier credits taking ages now is bugging me!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 893 ✭✭✭MICKEYG

I find them quite slow to credit, even flights from Dublin. I cant understand why it can't be credited as soon as the flight lands.

Sounds like it is some antiquated batch processing system. Frustrating that you need to keep an eye out in case you miss out on what you earned.

What would also be nice is an email our app alert when your points and tier credits arrive. Marriott do that now on their app

Flew Saturday morning from a Dublin, and it was showing on my account at 9:05am 3 days later

Flew Tuesday evening from a EU outstation, (not on Astral) and it was showing on my account at 9:05am 2 days later

In both cases I checked in online

This is a fairly consistent pattern over the last few months

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,274 ✭✭✭Rowley Birkin QC

Just had a really fantastic customer service experience with the AerClub Concierge helpline. Had some upgrades to use before they expired so the agent patiently went through all the available options, proactively suggested alternatives, listened to my dithering and got it all sorted in about 25 mins.

A marked improvement on the last few times I've called them and hopefully not a once off.

I asked the guy about leaving a feedback survey for him as I know they can be helpful but there isn't an option, only for complaints! If there's one that anyone is aware of, please let me know. Thanks!

With reward flights as part of the aercard benefits it comes with a 10kg carry on

On the aercard website it says you can check these in

But on the main aer Lingus page it says they have to be carried on board

Have emailed them for clarity but nothing back yet

Has anyone experiences of this ?

We would rather check them in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭notuslimited

I sincerely hope things are going back to the way it used to be….but I won’t be holding my breath.

Roly….were the upgrades approved on the phone or later after you had booked economy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭rio1

I don’t find them consistent allocating tier credits recently. Flight three weeks ago, return leg credited ten days later, out bound still not. Flight last week, outbound credited in 24 hours, inbound 3 days later. Have filled in the form for the missing one at this stage…I’m flying next week also and once I get that missing one, should reach platinum so hope it is credited soon.

If flying to London City on a BA flight booked on the Aer Lingus website can I use the aer Lingus lounge in Dublin as an aer club silver member?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,342 ✭✭✭goingnowhere

    Curiously enough no

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭rio1

Really? Can’t use the lounge? That’s crazy. Should have just flew to Heathrow with Aer Lingus then I guess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,209 ✭✭✭samo

Still waiting for 2 flights (BA LCY to DUB and EI DUB to FRA) from late Jan/ early Feb and nothing back from missing credits form.

on the lounge, might be worth trying as it’s an EI ticket.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭notuslimited

I had a similar problem recently on a DUB-EDI segment. After the online form failed to work I rang Aer Club and checked my ticket number. It turns out that the EI system had a different ticket number than was on my email confirmation. When I used the new ticket number on the claim form it worked. Might be worth a try to give Aer Club a call to check.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭rio1

So not possible to use lounge in Dublin as an Aer Club silver member travelling on a BA flight booked on Aer Lingus. Just won’t book it again, Heathrow as handy anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,209 ✭✭✭samo

that makes sense actually as I changed my outbound flight for one of the flights.. thankyou. Will give that a try !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,342 ✭✭✭goingnowhere

Yup it a strange one. Got to be Shamrock on the tail

If you are connecting through LHR onto a transatlantic BA/AA then you do have access thanks to the JV but only if Platinum or better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 378 ✭✭Bojill

Wondering if anyone can help, I have some avios from BA which I want to transfer to Aer L.
I've found the combine points page on BA.com, after log-in, it asks for username and password for Avios partner.
I put in my Aer L details, but it says incorrect detail.

Anyone successfully transferred BA to AL?

    Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,563 ✭✭✭VG31

Make sure your name, email, DOB, phone and address match exactly on both accounts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 378 ✭✭Bojill

For anyone who might be searching for this in the future, when asked for the username and password for avios partner,

its your aerlingus number, not the email address.

Just transferred there, and it was instant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,342 ✭✭✭goingnowhere

    Good call out, that works

Can take a few attempts to get the page to load on the BA site but it works
