I Asked the local garage to look for a second hand Mondeo estate as a trade-in for a 03 Toyota Land cruiser as I don't have a vat number and the tax is killing me.

He has suggested alternatives such as 308 or c4 ( easier to get ).

    Q. If I wanted an Estate what short list should I give him.

You should really just find one you like and buy it rather than getting someone to find one for you. It'll always be a compromise otherwise.

Trade in hassle is a consideration, also If they source I have no hassle in getting someone to check the car for faults. Worked well the last time.

I'm not convinced tbh. 13 year old commercial land cruiser isn't worth huge money either way and any garage I know of would take it as a trade in.
You're at the mercy of whatever your man comes up with. He can't get you a mondeo - never mind an exceptional one. The fact that he's trying to get you into a c4 or a 307 would suggest to me that he just wants to get something he can add lots of value to.

It depends on how much value you put on having no hassle.

What do you think a 13 year old cruiser is worth?

Obviously depending on what state it's in, assuming it's LWB - anything from €4k-6k.
Some dealers are asking huge money for them though.

Thank you to all. Ended up doing it myself, got a Skoda Suberb Estate with all the bits inc. from someone not to far from us before Christmas. The feedback helped in getting a feeling for the price range and to motivation to look myself.

Going to pop a similar question on the other car now in a new tread.
