This is just one arrest, but could it be the start of justice being done?
Or could it just be an arrest followed by release without charge?

What are your opinions on this news?

Hopefully, he will be brought to justice if guilty of a crime and appropriately punished.

There should be no hiding place for those guilty of any atrocity on either side.

I doubt a conviction for the killings would be possible due to the amount of time that has passed, media portrayals of the shootings especially two motion pictures that would prejudice the trial and the conclusions of the Saville Inquiry that soldiers acted as they did out of "fear and panic."
There is one soldier known as F to the Inquiry who was among four paratroopers who pursued a crowd into a nearby courtyard car park where he shot several men. He later emerged on the main road and shot a man in the head as he waved a hanky while he went to help a wounded man on the ground.
He will no doubt claim that at the time he thought he was shooting at armed men after he was told "Free Derry" was a war zone and he and his comrades could expect to face IRA resistance.

It's a disgrace that it has taken so long. Wonder if its the soldier known as 'soldier E' who murdered 4 of the victims.

Many of the paratroopers who took part in Bloody Sunday continued to have long careers in the military.
Ian McKay who testified to the Widgery Tribunal as "K" fought in the Falklands War and lost his life during the Battle of Mount Longdon winning a posthumous Victoria Cross.

It is believed that men of the Paratroop Regiment when on tour often went outside base at night in plain clothes and drove in unmarked cars to assassinate people with handguns and submachine guns and bombs alongside 14th Intelligence Company, the SAS and the Military Reaction Force (MRF) and colluded with loyalist paramilitaries. The SAS take most of their recruits from the paratroopers.

Soldier F is still alive and had a long career in the paras becoming a senior NCO before retiring.

i'd well believe it. the SAS vermin would have been up to a lot of dirty tricks in NI as well as the other dregs in the BA. no surprises there.

anyway the real reason i brought up this thread, any updates on the arrest?

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.
