Looks like we will getting a new series of Love/Hate next year which will focus on pipe bomber Patrick.
    http://www.irishmirror.ie/whats-on/film-and-tv/lovehate-season-six-heres-what-6798132
Love/Hate could be set to make a return to our TV screens, it has been revealed, a year on from the show's final episode.
But it won't be anytime this year as the new series remains in development stages, RTÉ Television's Head of Drama, Jane Gogan has confirmed.
The new series looks set to focus on pipe bomber Patrick, played by John Connors, and his Traveller family.
And a source revealed: "While scenes are not yet being filmed, locations and new talent are being scouted for Love/Hate's big comeback.
"Bringing the focus to Patrick and his background will open up the show to a whole new legion of fans."
In a statement, Ms Gogan said: "RTÉ can confirm that Love/Hate will not return to screens in 2015. A sixth series is currently in development with the writer and creator Stuart Carolan and Octagon Films."

I hope Nidge pulls through. People have survived much worse shootings.

I read an article from RTE which denies these claims, the same link that bazermc posted. Got my hopes up for a bit, but RTÉ Television's Head of Drama, Jane Gogan, said that Love/Hate would not return to screens in 2015, and that all involved felt it was "important to take time before going to production with a sixth season"

It will happen eventually Love/Hate is too much of a money spinner for them not to make a folllow up series.

I can't remember when Aido got involved but I don't think it was until the later seasons. Everyone else though from the early seasons is dead or in prison and I don't know if there's enough about Patrick to carry the show on his own. There was very little info on any other members of Patrick's gang/family either so it'll be him and pretty much all new characters.

In saying that if there is a new series everyone will tune back in and RTE were time specific about no new show in 2015, which is over in 7 weeks!

Don't think love hate will come back in any format. There is talk of a spin off with a few of the characters but even then it's hard to know who it would be. Can't see the Patrick character being central to a show. The actor is big time on the whole traveller rights thing at the moment so I can't see him agreeing to do a show that would center on criminality in the traveller community. That's what a love hate spin off would have to be. He could well do a show about all aspects of traveller life but not with a focus on crime. Also with the traveller rights issue a big one now I can't see the Fran character coming back. The idea of a settled person playing a traveller as a psychopath isn't as politically correct as it was even a couple of years ago. I don't think any of the remaining gang members are really strong enough to carry the show itself.

There could be a spin off focused on the Garda characters. There were some interesting characters there and I don't think they were properly developed. Maybe take the love hate garda characters and have them investigate a set crime or criminal each series (think prime suspect or the bridge). But then again RTE are currently working with the BBC on the Third series of "The Fall" so would they do two police dramas?

My bet is we will see Stuart Carolan do something new with RTE and with many of the Love Hate cast. But it will be different to Love Hate with different characters.

I think you are getting carried away with the whole PC thing, has anything you have seen in the past 5 series given you the impression that Carolan and co are a softly softly PC bunch?
'Patrick' builds pipe bombs and has murdered at least two people, so the actor is obviously willing to play a criminal traveller (he is an actor after all)
Regarding 'Fran', I wasnt even aware he was a traveller

So will this be fiction or a reality TV show?

I don't think Carolan and co would shy away from gritty stories. I think RTE and the actor might.

Fran isn't a traveller He lives in a caravan. So does Meryl Streep when on location. "I'm going to my trailer" means "I'm going to my caravan". Sorry to blow the minds of any aspiring showbiz peeps who think it's all red carpets and gold finish.
Travellers commit crime and are heavily involved in organised aspects of it. Nobody representing the travelling community would dispute that. they would dispute that being the sole image of their community. No different from Italian Americans getting sick to **** of Godfather references everytime they show up in a film.

You are not really making sense, RTE showed the first 5 series of the show, why would they shy away from 'gritty' now?
As for the actor, If he is offered a lead role on LH, I cant see him shying away either.

    Thought so.

Exactly, the man has opinions and expresses them given that he'll get media attention due to his job.
To make ends meet he goes to work and pretends to be a man who makes bombs. The fact that in reality he may or may not be able to wire a plug has nothing to with how well he portrays the inner life of an explosives expert.
While he's waiting on the non-existent script to be delivered he may also pretend to be the Widow Twanky during panto season. Or fetch up in Once Upon A Time which appears to be recruiting anything Irish with an Equity card. I live in hope.

They should do a follow up series of Fran going on a revenge mission.

A prequel film or series with all would be best imo

With Nidge gone the only person he has to get revenge against is Noely and I'm fairly sure Noely won't be back again considering he was arrested for armed robbery in real life.

I thought it wasn't happening. TV3 mite pick it up as there taking the rugby and soccer off rte

Even if Nidge is dead Fran would still dig him up and piss on him:pac:

It looks like we will never see a new season of Love/Hate

This is the 3rd Autumn schedule release without the show, so unfortunatly it's 100% gone. (I had hope, even 3 years late).

They should repeat it some time.

    Good.

Let's be honest here lads, was Love/Hate ever really a good show? It always felt like a generic, poorly written piece of crime telly; crime as imagined by The Sunday Independant reader; that had an awful first season and beyond with mostly bum casting, but then The Good Thing Happened and it was almost completely accidental.

I'm talking about King Nidge, the slimest, weasleist, most incompetent lad ever to head a criminal organization. Tony Soprano was a highly intelligent, competent, violent as bum ruthless sociopath. Nidge was the Michael Scott of criminals, who was more concerned about being a baldie and getting nice shoes with the name printed on them. But feck it, that's what elevated the show to something more.

Love Hate, despite myriad flaws, worked best as a character study of King Nidge, in the same way The Sopranos was a character study of Tony Soprano. The third season remains the best of the lot by a good country and a half because of it, and perfectly suited the 6 episode format.

Then, for season four, the show's writers got this thing in their head that they should turn the show into the Irish equivalent of The Wire, when it should have been the Irish equivalent of The Sopranos. As a result, stupid plotlines with D4 dentists and badly miscast cop characters.

Shame, the show really could have been something far more if it went all out in that regard, but without Nidgeie, it's nothing.

There was a tweet from RTE after the final episode to say it would take a break for a year but would be back. Not sure why they wouldn't do another, seems like their lat three autumn schedules have been an attempt to find the next love/hate

If they were gonna bring it back they needed to keep Nidge. He elevated the show which had some weak writing. They either killed or comatised/locked up every good character.

And why was it called Love/Hate? Never understood that, there wasn't much love going round anyways.

Id imagine Robert Sheehan, Barry Keoghan and TVL would demand bigger pay these times. Good idea though

I think there is potential in a spin off with Terrence Big balls and perhaps Sean McGinley and how they filled the Nidge vacuum.

Think it'd be impossible to get the original cast back together on an RTE budget. Ruth Negga, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gillen and Brian Gleeson are all big stars in their own right now.

Gillen was a big deal prior to Love hate but apparently he is a keen advocate of homegrown projects

Do prequels not usually involve newer younger actors.
