Picked up a "premium" USB cable in Eurogeneral today for €3 - claims to be able support 3000mA charging. It'll be interesting to see if it really does as there other cables are about as far from premium as you can get!

Where is eurogeneral? Are they an online store?

They're a chain of discount stores - they're all over the country.

But will your plug support a charge this high? I *think* most regular usb plugs only output at 1,000-2,000mA. I hope you're right and I'm wrong because a cable like that would suit me grand!

Eurogeneral say they've 77 retail stores nationwide but don't seem to have a list..

    Gimmick,

USB ports can push out either 100mA max, or 500mA max. There is a current limiter that prevents devices from pulling more power.

Some USB drives draw more than 500mA, and it's possible that they rely on a quirk of the PC - most PCs cannot control nor detect when a single port draws more than 500mA (it takes less parts to do this, and thus is cheaper). Since it's rare that all USB ports on a PC are loaded to maximum, these drives can often spike their current draw to spin up the drive. Once the drive is spinning, it draws less than 500mA - it's just that most drives may require ore than 2.5W to spin up. (Most laptop drives require more than 500mA to spin up).

Who charges their phone or tablet from a PC? Most high end phones are coming with 2+ amp chargers and multiple port 3 amp chargers can be got easily.

Cable seems to work well - charges my OPO at full speed. Very sturdy construction with braided material covering the cable. Well worth the €3.

Are there any of these shops in Dublin?

These are brilliant. I read some review where they used the ampere app on a phone to compare cables and these cable out on top. I myself also replaced the wall socket in the sitting room with one with built in USB ports

I've an Oppo phone (similar to OPO) and always looking for better ways to charge it. I'm buying one of these cables tomorrow!

Can I ask what plug socket you used? Was it anything special? Or just a regular usb-plug bought off the internet?

    TIA

Try an Anker external battery. Much faster than any plug/adapter I've used, and you should get a few full phone charges from one battery charge.

What does the box say? Faster data transfer speeds got nothing to do with mA!
