Connecting coaxial cable to a splitter with F-type connections

    Hi,

Currently, coaxial cable comes from sky box to an aerial coaxial cable splitter (something like this), with one line going into a saorview box (I think the aerial feeds into the sky sat box), and one line into the TV via a magic eye.

When going via this splitter, the quality is bad, so I was looking around, and wondering would this splitter do a better job? And if so, can I just connect the cable directly to it, and should I use this or this to connect the cable to the passive splitter?

Finally, would this improve the sky sat signal much? Cable is about 40 foot give or take a few feet.

Does the Saorview box have a second aerial out connector? Many do - the image above has both a aerial in and out and a sat in and out.

If it does, the connect the aerial through the box instead of using the splitter. The box needs to be powered for the loop output to work.

Sam make a good recommendation there, looping-through the aerial cable via the Saorview box before the Sky box would dispense with the requirement for a splitter.

What Saorview box are you using?

Not at all. The LNB has an amplifier in it and the output is enough to overcome the losses of a much longer cable than 40', even a grotty cable.

In fact it may well cause overloading.

Cheers. Never thought to see the Saorview box as a solution rather than a problem. Now that the cable goes direct into the Saorview box, I get very good picture for the Saorview. The Saorview box is a Laurus LR605-CI.

Although the Sky picture is good, it's still a tad bit fuzzy on the 19" TV. We've tried some random powered booster in the past, but that did little to improve picture quality.

Could it be that the signal is analogue SD from the Sky box.

It could be. I'm watching good quality TV for so long, I forget how bad analogue TV is.
