I know this sounds a little heavy for After Hours but i dont intend it to be. My little melt down of which I will tell you in just a tic was over in an evening and Im interested in other peoples similar experiences:
    So.
I will never over estimate the effects of stress and over tiredness again.
Since early September Ive only had about 8 single days off. That may not sound too bad being about one day a week BUT Ive since learned that at least two consecutive days are vital for your head to unkink!
Many of these days have been well upwards of 12 hour days leading to 60 hour weeks.
Last Friday, under extreme pressure and trembling with tiredness I came down a 5 m ladder (I climb ladders a lot!) much faster than planned. I literally saved myself by hanging on with one hand. I filled out an incident report and then planned to calmly walk into my bosses office and explain my predickermink and demand a break as soon as possible. Within seconds my boss was dealing with a blubbering, multi pierced, tattooed 45 year old who had to be sent home in a bucket!!!!
Two days off being pampered and drip fed beer and Keoghs crisps by my wife and Im back at work not a bother and guaranteed two days off in a row later in the week.
To be honest Im not a bit embarrasses but I scared the ****e outta myself.

    Any similar melt downs?

    Mod

You're right, there is, but this isn't a personal issue. It's a discussion which has a place in After Hours and in fact would not be permitted in PI which is for advice only.

If you have an issue with a post or thread being here, reported it.

Sounds like you have a decent enough boss.

I work in a stressful environment, get regular supervision , am explicitly asked about taking leave and taking care of ourselves.

Have a nice stress free Sunday.

I overworked and under rested for a period of about 18 months many years ago. Ended up with ulcers, high blood pressure, panic attacks in the small hours of the morning, and no interest in my family life. Walked out of work one afternoon not knowing where I was going to but knew I had to get out of there. Finally talked to my GP and found a simple solution. I learned how to say No and to take a deep breath when things threatened to get out of hand.

Never looked back, never stressed out about anything again, and all was plain sailing thereafter.

Not the same situation, but I was under a good bit of stress for a period of months and it was constantly escalating and invading every area of my daily life. I didn't actually fully take in how much it was affecting me until suddenly, in a period of hours, it was all gone and I literally moved away from the situation.

I spent a few days shaking with relief, and maybe another week of serious anxiety and nervousness before I felt 'normal' again.

Stress can creep up on you, you can think you're handling it okay but sometimes it doesn't take much to tip the balance from coping right down into meltdown. I'd say if I wasn't removed from the situation, that I would have had a much bigger meltdown in the end.

She is but she overscheduled and I took the brunt of it. Im left to my own devices at work and am essentially my own boss as what I do is very specialised and technical and The Boss only has a vague notion whats involved. Abouit two weeks back it dawned on me just what was coming down the line scheduling wise and I should have called for back up then but thought I would manage. As someone else said, stress can creep up on you....and it did at the top of a very high ladder:eek:

Nope but home at six for a roast dinner. Im not beyond emotional black mail and milking of the situation to get TLC from wifey.

When my ex and I broke up I took on an extra job because he wasn't exactly contributing towards our child. So this meant i was working three jobs as a newly single parent that was also studying part time. The stress was crazy and it was a really tough time generally cause I was upset about the situation. I didn't realise how stressed I actually was until I was in a position to leave the other two jobs and just have the one. Since then I don't get sick half as much, I'm less wound up and just more relaxed generally. Thank god I didn't have any kind of breakdown/moment as such, but I can definitely see how people do. Its so important to have down time and do little things that make you happy and relaxed.

The last time I had a mental breakdown, I saw people walking through walls.

I decided there and then to put the spliff down, and never pick it up again…
