I'm in receipt of long-term Disability Allowance. I'll qualify for a Contributory State Pension next year.
Will my DA stop and my Pension start automatically, or do I have to apply, and if so, when?

If you've been on Disability Allowance for years then it's very unlikely your going to get a Contributory pension
You need to apply for a Non Con pension about 4 months before your 66 birthday

I've been on DA from 2006, prior to that I was self-employed for many years, and my accountant (from that period) calculated that I had enough contributions to qualify for the Contributory Pension.
    Hopefully, she was right!

Tony follow this link and they will post you out your PRSI record and when it arrives you will have a better idea of what's going to happen

I'd say if you were working most of the time before 2006 you should qualify for contrib (don't quote me tho!). My mam went on da back in the early 2000's if not late 90's and she qualified for contrib this year.

The thing is, your mother was an employee before she became ill, the OP was self employed
    There is a big difference

I missed where it said the OP was self employed. My apologies
