Hey all.. My dryer has died! It was acting up for a week or so, but eventually would work and now it's completely stopped. I'm wondering should I bother trying to get it repaired or just get a new one? When I turn it on it sounds like it's going to do sonething and then stops!
Any advise would be appreciated .. Thanks :)

My local repair man is €100 call out fee + €50 per hour plus parts. You gotta figure at least €180-€200 for a repair of a x years old machine. Put €50 to that and you could have a brand new one. You also got to think will something else go wrong with it in the near future.

Thanks for your reply Ken.. Yes I think you are right. If we had any idea what was wrong with it my other half could possibly fix it but we haven't a clue what the problem is!

It could be full of fluff from drying clothes, I had a similar problem with a dryer a few years ago. It was a case of taking it apart and cleaning out all the airways in the machine.
Another thing the check would be the door switch.

After that it carried on working well for a few more years, it lasted 17 years in total.

Your local repairman is a rip off!!! 100euro for a call out is a bit much plus 50e per hour. Thats a disgrace!!! Only the manufacturers servicemen charge that kinda money.
It should only take him 30mins max to fix the dryer if he was any good!

As for the OPs original post, what make of dryer is it and when you say it just stopped, has the drum just stop rotating or is there no noise off the dryer whatsoever??

It could be just a belt thats gone or even the pecker on the door thats broken, either way it should only cost you 50e to 100euro max to fix

Thanks Dolanbaker for your reply , I'll get himself to take a look at the airways!

Thanks for your reply thebeeb, I agree those prices are quite high.

The make of the dryer is a Zanussi Electrolux. I have the model number at home. When it began acting up it would only work on certain settings, it then stopped working completely, I discovered a bit of paper in the dryer when I took that out, it worked again! and now a few weeks later it just won't work at all, all the lights will come on though..

Hi thebeeb, thanks again for your reply and help.
It would be approximately 7/8 years old.
    The model number is: ZDC67550W.

Yes there is a very low humming noise when I select a programme, it was a bit louder a week or so ago.. :(

If there is a humming/buzzing noise and the drum isnt turning, it could be the csse that the capacitor is faulty.

In laymans terms, the function of the capacitor is to give the motor a kickstart to run. Price range of fix is 60-100 depending on serviceman.
