I'm Seriously considering one of these cars (obviously from the uk as there are none of them in Ireland due to the stupid irish 'must be diesel' mentality) Does anyone have one or know anything much about them. Is the engine the same K20 that was in the CL accords? What are they like to run? I do less than 20km a day and so I'm not too pushed on MPG figures but don't want a real pig either.

Manufacturers figures suggest almost 40mpg average combined but I'd say real world figures would be closer to 33/35mpg.

Reviews on them are sparse even in uk sites as even over there the vast majority of newer Accords are diesels but there are plenty of petrol models available too and with much better spec than here (as usual)

new models came in about 2008, the CL ones were replaced by the 8th gen.

They are fine cars, reliable and very well appointed in ex trim., I stuck a link up one for another poster here a few days ago , UK model in executive trim, its sold now. So (smart) people do buy them.

K24 (CL9) models are uber rare but the 2.0 ones (CL7 K20) are not to be sniffed at and are adequate for most people.

there is also a free MOT history check now for UK cars so you can do some detective work on potential cars.

I should ad that 8th Gen 2.4 models are uber rare, 7th gen 2.4s might be more common.

They are a variant of the k20, and much less powerful than the euro r models. There pretty reliable but won't do 40mpg in any world. Lovely cars and decent spec as standerd, try going for the most powerful model your budget allows though because they are heavy and the different models have slight variations in power levels.

The VRT on them will be crazy will it not but there's going to be so few of them in Ireland you might get one on sale a year.

VRT for 09/10 2.0 model is €2700 I think. Worth it for the car your getting as it's basically impossible to get a reasonably powerful petrol engined 09/10 car of that size in Ireland.

How m7ch power do the 2.0l Accords put out? I know the Cl7 was 154bhp.

I had an 09 2.0 cl7 type s was lovely car. Had it for year and no issues with it. Only changed as wanted something with more power but it wasn't too bad power wise to be fair 155bhp. Would buy one again in the future no bother.

It's the same afaik, only difference is the 8th gen is bigger and heavier.

So could be a bit sluggish really then. I had a cl7 loved it great car to drive but got rid of because I wanted more power a bigger heavier car could struggle a bit with it.

    Very reliable though.

They would probably be a bit less nippy than the 7th generation but still capable of moving. So rare to find one over here though, the 8th generation was launched here just around the time of the tax system change so the small number of petrol models would have already been in the country by that stage.

As people have said, they are a very reliable car. The 2.0 is not going to set the world in fire in performance but if you get executive trim you will get a lot of kit for your money.

I happened to get speaking to someone today who owns a 2010 petrol accord. I pulled into a parking spot at a shopping centre in Derry when a beautiful black accord pulled into the space beside me just as I was getting out of my car and when I heard the near silent petrol engine I decided to wait and talk to the owner/driver.

Anyway he owned the car from brand new and it only had 42k miles on it, absolutely zero issues since buying it bar servicing (once a year) and new tyres. He travels 70 miles a day round trip (open A road) to/from work and the car is averaging roughly 41mpg, it was currently showing 38mpg but he says he's been doing all City driving over the weekend and so it drops.

I think I will most definitely be buying one in the new year. I've considered the petrol (1.8) Avensis and Mazda 6 (1.8) but my wife says the Avensis is too "old man" and reviews suggest the Mazda is a bit of a pig on juice so there really is absolutely nothing else available with the possible exception of the Mondeo. I wouldn't touch a French or European car and so the Accord is looking like my only option (I've owed over 20 Hondas and so it's not like I'm 'settling' for one. I really want one but want to consider all options before hand)

I sold my 2.0 petrol Accord last week as I needed more seats. I miss that car a lot. This thread is making me very jealous. If it wasn't for the practicality of the FRV (or an estate or hatchback) I would have no problem buying an Accord all over again.

You wont go wrong with an Accord. If people in England and Ireland were not brainwashed by diesel they would not have stopped selling them over here, they are a superb car.
