    Hi

I have an old mountain bike in need of a rear wheel - 26" threaded freewheel.

I'm reluctant to fork out for a new one as (i) the bike isn't really worth it and (ii) there has to be a load of decent wheels getting dumped somewhere. hasn't there?

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Bob

Depends on where you are. Rothar in Phibsboro will have second-hand ones.

That sounds like an excellent suggestion, thanks. Had a quick look at the website and really like the idea of the place. I will check them out.

I have a 26 inch wheel with tube and slick tyre, and with 9 speed cassette, if you're interested. Never used outdoors (turbo only). I'm in Cork.

    Hi outfox

Sorry i forgot to say in original post I am in N Dublin. New wheel with 9 speed cassette would be cool but it would also lead me on a trail of upgrading chain, shifters etc etc which, while tempting, I'm not quite ready for right now :-(

I am sure you will find a good home for it down in Cork.

    Thanks

I have a pair in the garage which you're welcome to for free. Including freewheel and tyres. D12

Guys - if the OP is looking for one 2nd hand they can post in Cycling Adverts where we apply special rules. Never turn a thread into the main forum into an ad.

    Thanks

OK sorry. It wasn't really intended to be an ad rather than just looking for information. But I can see how it ended up that way with kind people volunteering wheels.
