Material Change Of Use : Doctor's Surgery -> Residential

We are looking at purchasing a house that had been used as a doctor's surgery for the past 20 years. It is is in a residential area and attached to another house.

Would this require planning permission to be changed back to residential use?

We have mortgage approval for a residential property so it would need to be a residential property before we could complete the purchase.
