Good few SEAT Leon TDI buses out there for that money, probably get you a nice 2009 with 6 months warranty. All the Golf architecture, materials a bit cheaper and cabin slightly more cramped.

That's very doable for 08, you could get something right nice for €10k.
    Still 8 years old though.

    Here's a 2011 i30

we have a 5 speed 116bhp one and it's a little flier on the motorway.
not sure which enine is in the one there but I'd suspect it's 90bhp 6 speed

Decent spec Renault Megane III below with low mileage, should be able to get close to your budget:

Despite the reputation of the previous model, they are quite reliable.

Make sure to get 08+ for cheaper tax rates. 10k's a reasonable budget. Skoda octavia facelift model's not a bad shout!

you won't be, Hyundai are getting popular abs sure she has the newer model. You'd get one for around the 10k mark I paid 13500k back in 2012 for mine with 16000 miles on the clock

The newer shape Astra is in your price range. However it's a much heavier car than your model so the 1.3 diesel is underpowered, the 1.7 is fine but it's a very old design and as such very unrefined. The 2.0 is good and has plenty of poke in the Astra especially for motorway driving but they are rare to find unless you look for the Vauxhall version.

If you are considering the i30, I suggest you also consider Kia Cee'd

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/kia-ceed-1-6-crdi-tax-till-11-15-/10408477

Better value, and essentially the same car.

nice but not into sliver cars.

What about the newer polos with the same shape as the golfs or near to it

+1 on the Ceed, my hubby just bought one a couple of months ago and it's a great little car. €200 annual road tax and cheap as chips on fuel, very nippy too.

They're nice enough, but they are narrow inside, and just not as big as your Astra.
Main issue for me is engine choice. There's a miserable 1.2 diesel that sounds like a bag of spanners, and a similar sounding 1.4 diesel, that at least has some punch. The 1.6 is the one to get but these are often asking silly money.
I don't like the way the door cards are made from rock hard plastic, so I was walloping my elbow off it constantly.
