New heating system SEAI grant

    Hi there,
I am sure everyone has read about of million of these SEAI warmer home scheme questions and sick of seeing them but I really don't have a clue where to begin or what to apply for. If you know any good or helpful former threads can you send me a link. Anyways...

The situation is that I want to help out my retired parents heat their house. They always has a Stanley range cooker that heated the rads, but they removed it a few years ago and replaced it with a wood burner stove that isn't connected to the rads. It is just free standing. They are getting on a bit and I hate seeing them trying to light a fire at 8 am to try get a bit of heat, as well as carrying in heavy bags of logs.

There is an open fireplace with a back boiler in another room that wouldn't heat a single rad if it tried. also the rads are old, very old.

What I would like to see is a new condensing oil boiler in the garage (they would have to connect it to the system by busting through a hole in the wall), a new oil tank outside, heating controls and new more efficient rads.

Would anything need to be done with the existing back boiler or what extra work would be needed there.

They aren't on the fuel allowance, job seekers or family income supplement. They are retired and don't have a great deal of money.

If anyone would have any pointers about how much this would cost or any advice I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks.

New radiators are not necessarily any more efficient than old ones. The best thing might be to disconnect the back boiler completely.

    There are details at http://www.seai.ie/Grants/Warmer_Homes_Scheme/

It doesn't include replacing a boiler as far as I know.

You are probably going to have to fork out a few thousand euros (I would say three thousand or four thousand euros) to sort this out but it is the best money you can spend. You just have to get recommendations and quotes for the best person to do it.
