Tax credit / emergency tax question

    Asking a question for a friend, any help greatly appreciated :)

    They've recently changed employer and can't apply for p45 from old job until 6 weeks after finishing as their last pay check doesn't come through until then. In the mean time they will have received 2 pay checks from their new employer.

    They want to know is there any way to limit the amount of emergency tax from the new employer (ie. before they can get their p45)?

    Ring revenue, give them new employers details - request they issue certificate of tax credits to new employer.

    If they are still to receive payment from their previous employer would they not need to ensure there are sufficient tax credits left with that employer to avoid paying the higher rate of tax (if not already)?
