    Folks,

I am thinking of buying a paint sprayer for redecorating the house ( inside and out ) and if possible to spray an mdf project I am working on

I saw homebase have a Earlex hv3900 which seemed to fit the bill but I see aldi have a compressor and some spray gun bits that might do

Anyone any idea of what these are like and if they would be suitable for what I am trying to do?

    thanks
    Rob

I've bought two of those Earlex things and never had any luck getting an acceptable finish with them.

Don't know about the Aldi products but I have also tried cheap air spraying kits and found them generally useless for anything but rough spraying.

I got a compressor from Aldis many years back with loads of gadgets two spray guns and 10 attachments in all, its only last week I sprayed some fencing for my garden, OK it was rough cut wood but it did a great job in a fraction of the time as I have said I have had it a long time (over 10 years) I have only had one part fail on me It was immediately replaced by power craft, or their parent company no fuss no charge
don't forget at Aldis you will get a three year warranty

Yeh, as I said, I have no experience of the Aldi stuff. Just general thoughts on cheap equipment.
In saying that, compressors are fairly bog standard so maybe upgrading to a better quality gun for finer work might be an option?

My only advice would be don't bother. If you are using it inside it will be impossible to keep the paint from getting on everything in the room from floor to ceiling. This would be OK if you were painting a new house before second finish but a nightmare even if you have completely emptied the room.

Using it outside you have no control where the paint goes especially if there is any wind at all. The last thing you want is to get a bill from the neighbour to respray his car.

You would be better off getting a 12" roller frame with a good pole and some decent brushes.

    What's your budget?

I bought a 2nd hand Graco sprayer and am very happy with it. Agree that spraying outdoors would be tricky, but it worked great for me inside. However, it did cost me around 600 yoyos - but I have a full house and basement to paint from scratch so will likely safe it in the long run. I can always sell it on anyways.

I bought it off a lad in Kilkenny who imports them 2nd hand from the US and does them up/cleans them. Or if you know anyone in the US who can post one over then your sorted. Graco or Titan seem to be good makes.
