What jacket?

I think the time has come for me to buy a proper cycling jacket.

Will be used on spins (not commutes), never really had a jacket before (my theory has been to wear lots of layers and I have a pocket fold up plastic jacket thing that I wear in the rain. Hate it.

Not looking to spend too much, but happy to spend a bit if the quailty is there.

    Cheers!

ETA - I was looking at this: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-eq25-waterproof-cycling-jacket/

    Budget?

What duration will longest winter ride be?

Mountains or on flat primarily for winter?

    Mudguards or not?

If you're purely looking at just a rain jacket then this jacket is the best rain jacket I've ever had.

If you're looking to stay warm and aren't that fussed about the jacket being completely water resistant then I'd go with this jacket.

The tourmalet is the best rain jacket I've ever owned. I've been in torrential downpours and gotten home completely dry. That being said, if you're going hard your sweat will start to condensate on the inside of the jacket. It is breathable but not that breathable.

As to the Mistral. I have yet to use it. I have used their previous iteration, the Columbier, which is a fantastic cold weather jacket but not great in the rain. I believe the Mistral improves on where the Columbier was lacking. By all accounts it seems to be a fantastic jacket.

Wait until you can buy an Assos 851 - the only jacket you'll ever need! I have a couple and one of them is 20 years old and is still perfect (bar the bits I smacked off trees while MTBing!).

I have to agree with most of what Sarz says-but I have the Mistral foul weather, I have found it to be very waterproof, except when I sweat, I have been out with even just a vest inside, when it's mild……it keeps me dry, it's reflective piping is so good, that 3 more guys in the club have bought one, the wicking properties are brilliant….
